Nexus Buy & Return Question

So despite all the waiting and wanting and frustration and anticipation, I'm not 100% sure I will keep the Nexus. My Droid X is about to go tits up, so I kinda NEED to get a new phone but not necessarily sure if the Nexus is the ideal candidate.

Here's the issue: the store from which I'm going to buy it is a third-party store in NYC that is closing sometime between 1/1 and 1/15. What happens if I buy the phone from them (and not Verizon) and then decide to return it but the store is gone? Anyone have any ideas? Or should I just contact VZW directly and have them advise me officially? Or does that somehow put me in a bad position if/when I _do_ wind up returning the phone?

(PS I'd rather not buy it from this store but the manager is sort of a friend, but I'm also considering buying it elsewhere if possible).

I suppose you're referring to the 14-day return period. That is a Verizon policy, NOT a store policy. It seems to me that, even if that store is closed, you can still return it to any other Verizon store for credit.

You may want to confirm that with Verizon, but I can't imagine them denying you your right of return (which is in your contract) just because a store closed.

I think I'm going to wind up going to a corporate store just to be on the safe side. I'd like to give my friend the business but given the foreseeable aggravation in the return -- which I'd say at this point is around 50-50 likely -- I'm better off just going through the corporate store, which is close by, and playing it safe. I'm def. going to call VZW just in case though -- mebbe they'll have some good info.

Thanks for the help...

I agree with your choice - there is no way in hell I'd buy anything from a store I knew was going to shut down if I thought I wanted to return the product. At absolute best, I think it would be an aggravation. At worst, you won't be able to return it. Since it's a third party store, especially.

Hey all -- thanks for the input. I did wind up calling VZW directly and they said if I buy a handset from a store that subsequently goes out of business I'm SOL. While we were talking I considered whether I should perhaps buy it at full retail so I'm not locked in. But if this phone's not worth $300, is it worth $600 or $700?

Anyhoo, I'm either buying directly from a full-on VZW store or at full retail from my local about-to-be-unemployed guy.

Oh, BTW, they said the phone's coming out tomorrow, BTW.

Just kidding on that last part... ;-)

Thanks again for the assists...
