Help Nexus Camera and App Issues

Hi All,

Just got the Nexus a couple of weeks ago having been an iPhone user since day 1 and would just like to get some advice on a couple of issues I've noticed please.

First, I'm having issues with a few apps not loading properly. When you start them they start up really small or 1/4 the size of the screen and then just sit there until I kill them with task manager, screenshots are here:

Any ideas please? Is it just compatability with ICS? Or have I got a setting wrong somewhere? Thanks :)

Second, I think there might be an issue with the camera when shooting at night and / or when shooting pinpoint light sources as the light in the shots seems like it's being smeared, as below:

Has anyone else noticed this? It does the same when changing to night mode as well. I've compared the shots to my wife's 4S and it doesn't do it on hers. I think the lens might be damaged but it was doing it out of the box on day 1 so I don't think it's anything I have done. Was thinking about taking it back to the shop...

Thanks in advance for any replies. Please be gentle, its my first time :)

Thanks,

James

Light smearing is frequently from a dirty camera lens. Have you tried buffing the lens and seeing if it goes away? It's pretty easy to get oil and crap on the lens.

Did you buy it at a local store? Any chance you could go there in the evening and try shooting with a display model or something to see if the problem remains?

That's definitely unacceptable, IMO. Hopefully another Nexus owner can chime in and say theirs doesn't do it and you will be all fixed up with a new phone...

Thats a good idea thanks, I'll go try it tonight. I got it online but the company also has high street stores so I should be ok.

Well I managed to test my phone against a stock one and there is deffo an issue with my camera so I'm getting a new phone tomorrow... yay :)

Have also solved the app issue; I found out my friend had enabled "force 2D rendering" in the developer options whilst he was playing with it and this was causing all my issues!

Thanks for replies, thread can be closed :)

Sweet. Glad to hear it's not a systemic problem with the camera, and thanks for posting up the result for the other issue as well - it helps when people search the forum. This is one of my favorite XKCD comics of all time, and so appropriate:
