Nexus on Verizon

Then maybe that's how it's going to be in the US? I'm not entirely sure, just like everone else here. But, again, that is the weakest arguement for Verzon getting this phone I have ever heard.

Oh, and the Moment had buttons just like the Droid's as well.

Agreed, it's a pretty weak argument. But the arguments I keep hearing against Verizon getting the phone are equally weak in light of the other info that's out there.

The architecture which determines the channel access method isn't in the CPU.
Same as an Intel CPU doesn't preclude your PC from using cable, DSL or dial-up.
(granted that's not an entirely accurate comparison, but you get the point.)
You are correct that everyone will be able to use the processor, we just need someone to build a CDMA phone that has it.

That is an interesting link though..

  • High-resolution up to WXGA (1280x720) display support (better than my first PC) :p
  • 12-megapixel camera support
Also, what's that sexy phone in the pic on that page?

But unlike PCs, the processor has to handle the data standard (EVDO, HSPA, etc). You're correct that while the processor can handle all these, it still needs the appropriate radio working with it to receive the transmission.

+1
That is what I have been saying and why it is premature at this point to say it is not coming to VZW.

Posted Last night by the wife of the Gentlemen who started PPCGEEKS.COM..I know, funny but, and stated the very first pics of the Nexus/HTC branded Passion phone on Unlockr that the Phone in the hands of the Google employees is not for sale but made only for google employees,it is unique and is different from all other Nexus phones being released.

Also that Verizon is getting the first Nexus/Passion/Dragon.

Definitely interesting. The blog cited in the third post is probably the likely scenario. The Passion is simply an HTC phone going to T-Mobile and Verizon in January. The Nexus One is simply a dev phone spun off the Passion that will never see market (meant only as a mobile lab as stated by Google). We've spent so much time wildly speculating that we blew past the simplest and most logical speculation. Occam's Razor, folks. Let's move on.

and for anyone who is interested, here are some more pics of the nexus one from engadget:

Whats hilarious is that this is exactly what Google has said. its an in house device for their employees ONLY and hence will not release the specs. Yet everyone plows ahead with "its a consumer device coming out shortly"

That must be a HTC design. If you look at the original leaked photos of the Nexux One (HTC branded) the keys are in the same order as the HTC Eris. Now they have changed them to the order identical to the Motorola Droid, probably at the request of Google since it's their phone. It's just a design issue and think it has more to do with design than carrier.

Here is another pic with the eris thrown in.

nexusonepicture.jpg

as you can see, the eris and the nexus have the same back button, but the droid and nexus have the same menu button.

The send call and end call buttons being removed from the button line is nothing new it was done the the Cliq which is Tmobile before the droid... just a new trend with the newer phones.....

As much as I want this to, I don't think the main buttons prove anything. However, chances of verizon carrying it are what I think are optimistic

Honestly I'm hoping it follows the last Google phone the ADP1 and releases to t-mobile under a different name.... :D

You realise the ADP1 was a modified version of a phone that came out a year earlier (HTC dream) and was never released for consumers right?

If Google is testing the hardware and software on the Nexus, GSM vs CDMA is irrelevant. I doubt they are checking how many bars they get in their office. They are testing the OS, apps, and how they run on the processor.

Good comparison picture there. It draws attention to the fact that the original leaked images of the passion are of a slightly different phone than the nexus one.

Passion leak (oct): Has "HTC" brand and left "Home" soft button
Nexus one (current): Has no "HTC" brand and left "back" soft button

So this is making sense to me that the early leaked pics are of a phone intended for carriers whereas the latest google phone pics are strictly a dev phone intended for google in house use, such as the previous two dev phones.

Some good discussions here

Here is some problems with that article. First off, it comes solely from 1 rumor. The leaked rom names had 2 Passion codenames. Second, TMO is going to handle billing questions? Is google selling billing plans? Thats a new one. If so why would TMO be answering questions about it? You sign a contract with Google why are you going to give information to TMO? or is TMO selling the billing plan as well? If so why would Google partner with TMO who has the smallest 3G coverage area of the big carriers? Or does it run solely off of a wifi hotspot? If only wifi the product probably wont last as many people dont live near one. Also what about the PassionC codename in the 2.1 rom. If C means CDMA again you have to ask why TMO is doing tech support for it as they run GSM? Not to mention if someone buys a Nexus, puts it on Verizon or ATT, are they really going to want to call TMo? If All this TMO stuff is true I dont see the phone going far.
T-Mobile were the only carrier willing to take a chance on Android, period, in the beginning. Maybe the new way that this phone is going to be sold and marketed made the other carriers stay away. When I think innovative and new I do NOT think of Verizon. I actually hope it comes to every carrier, but, like I said in another post, people shouldn't assume that VZW is all of a sudden gonna start getting the newest, innovative devices first when that has never been their business model.

The Google Nexus One is not a Verizon, Sprint, T-Mo or AT&T device.

http://www.nexusone.com/

The Google Nexus One is a Google device. Google had HTC build the device, as Google doesnt have a phone factory.

The Google Nexus One will not be "carrier specific". It will be unlocked to work on some carriers.

I'd actually be happier if we get the HTC bravo/passion over this. It's basically the same phone except the Bravo has better styling imo and it'll run sense.

Agreed
Sense with android is as good as it gets

+1 I just want VZW to get the hardware equivalent + Android. I'd prefer that HTC made it and it would run sense. If it were a 4.3 inch screen...you'd have my dream phone but I won't be greedy. I'd be happy with the 3.7 inch.

That wouldn't matter much. I've got a rooted G1 and some days I switch between CyanogenMod Donut, MotoBlur, Sense UI, Sense 2.1, Eclair 2.0, and Eclair 2.0.1 like I'm changing hats. :) A rooted HTC phone is infinitely customizable.

yeah of course and that kind of the point. It wouldnt really matter which one we get as long as we get an equivalent of the phones.

You're making me so JEALOUS...lol. That's why, to me, its important for Verizon to get the hardware equivalent. At least I know that once its rooted, I'll be able to update and customize the rest for the next year or two I have it. That's exactly why... They won't release a better processor this year. Yeah maybe another "cooler" phone on another network...but the best it could have, this year at least, is another snapdragon in it!
