Nexus One coming to Verizon Spring '10

N1 will come LOCKED to VZW. In that case, expect a $179-199 price tag with VZW voice and data plan, and new ETF. I was hoping for an unlocked version with a $500 price tag + VZW data. Boo!

Anyone know how long till it comes out on Verizon?

Rubin said the the CDMA version is going to take some time and is a bit more difficult. I would peg it at March-April. End of the first quarter. This might be what VZW was hinting at when they talked about two "flagship" Android models: 1) with keyboard, 2) without keyboard.

"a couple days" is when Google releases it's source code to the world (inclduing Moto). Moto needs to then tailor the OS to the DROID. This could take a month or two.

p.s. based on the reviews, the N1 is turning in to the "meh" Phone. I really hope HTC is permitted to bring their baby to market before the next iPhone comes out.

And even after moto tailors it, vzw still needs to test it....so like u said a month or two...maybe more.....ill take a port until then

for those of you running 2.1 rooted, is it really worth the hype? do you think we'll see good gains overall in performance and such when the real update comes out?

im still curious on how the droid will handle the 2.1 compared to the eris...

Well im running it on my droid and I havent run into any performance issues, i can imagine will get even better when its running 2.1 optimized for the droid.

I was waiting for this phone to come to Verizon with HTC Sense on it. It looks like it won't have it. Engaget reviewed the Nexus one and they said they prefered the Droid. The Nexus wasn't much faster, some of the colors on the screen were way oversaturated, and they had trouble with typing and activiting the 4 buttons at the bottom. Getting kicked out to the home screen while typing would drive me CRAZY. I guess I'm getting the Droid unless Motorola announced a thinner phone at their press conference tomorrow that will be out in the next month....

The typing and getting booted to the home screen happens to me on a regular basis with the droid because I hit the home button by mistake while typing. Cool thing is that if you are on a text message it saves it as a draft.

exactly what im going to do - except im going to upgrade to the 1-year contract rather than 2 years... i have a feeling in 1 year there will be a more solid market of variation of phones and its way better than waiting 2 years.

I just finished reading through CNet's blogged coverage of the event. I was really happy to hear that verizon is signing on the be a carrier that you can use for future phones that google will release.

It gives us another option if VZ doesn't sell the google phones directly.

I'm happy with the droid for now. If VZ and Moto slack, and decide not to give us 2.1, it's no big deal. There are enough people able to cook up versions of 2.1 and beyond for the droid...and at that time, I'll be more than happy to root this thing to get new functionality. Until then, I'll wait for the OTA's.

Apparently that is much worse (easier to do) on the Nexus than the Droid.

Link to a quote? Didn't see this comment anywhere.

Um, no thats not what was said. What was asked was "Will the Nexus One be coming to Verizon and Voda? Will they be unlocked?" and the answer was " Unlocked with CDMA is more complicated. But Nexus One will be on Verizon and Vodafone (which is GSM) CDMA is Verizon-only."
It wont be unlocked on Verizon as this was answered as "Some of the phones we

You really need to try the swype keyboard. Aside from being THE best android keyboard ( probably the best handheld keyboard ) it also fixes the issues of accidentally hitting the soft buttons at the bottom. Seriously...try it.

1ghz processor...

1.21 jiggawatts?!?

Can't wait to get the phone and test it against the Moto Droid and Eris.

Eris is due to have 2.1 sooner than Moto Droid

You're our inside guy! I take it you don't have a good idea of when this phone is actually hitting Verizon? Spring 2010 seems pretty conservative.

Spring 2010

The Nexus One Phone with Verizon Wireless service. Coming soon in the United States.

Hope the groundhog doesn't see a shadow..That would mean 6 extra month..Err I mean weeks.

just to be safe, and with everything happening so fast right now, im going to opt for a droid with a 1-year contract in a few days.. that way im not stuck with a phone that may look like a dinosaur in 2 years

After all your posting and fretting over the next big thing? Color me a little disappointed...:p

Seriously, it looks like a Droid for me as well when VZW allows me and the wife to upgrade.
