Nexus One Genie Widget

So, I've tried a couple of times to install this. Each time, after installing the apk file on my Eris and then re-booting, a number of things force close at startup including the phone module itself. If I uninstall the News & Weather program, then things are ok again on the next re-boot. Any idea what's going on? Thanks.

I was able to uninstall the nexus-one-genie-widget and I still have the problem!
So I am guessing that I am having a problem with another program.

{Just installed and rebooted my Hero And now the phone has a force close and will not turn on???

I can not open not open market due to phone not opening and I can not get applications manger to open..}

Caddyman: Makes sense. Any tips on how to try and figure out what's causing the conflict?

Chaos: Do you have some other way to uninstall an app? I use aTrackDog which lists my installed apps and lets me remove one.

After rebooting I was able to get in to applications manger and uninstall, But the phone will still not turn on.

I am trying to uninstall all things I have added in the past 24hrs. I hope that works.

Is there any way to tell what is stopping the phone from coming on?

Just to be clear, I assume you mean that the device turns on but the phone software won't start up (or won't keep running), right?

I've had this issue a couple of times over the last couple of months. The phone module crashes at startup and typically a number of other things close as well.

I've then done what you are trying which is to keep removing things that I've installed recently. I keep a careful list now for just this reason. Also, I try to avoid installing too many new things at one time (this is a tip from elsewhere in the forum).

Removing enough things has brought the phone back to life for me but I'm never really sure if that's the "solution" or if there's something else going on that I don't understand. I'd like to be able to prevent apps from loading without having to remove them. Someone mentioned a startup manager in another thread but I have not investigated that yet.

Sorry I was not clear on that. Yes the device turns on but the phone software won't start up. Along with a force close on about 10 other things.

So I started to uninstall things.
So the first time I did an uninstall I uninstall-ed 5 programs and had no luck.

Then the 2nd time I uninstalled
Wave Secure
Zombie Run
Chain React

And All is now good!

I am going to search for a for with a list of apps that people have had problems with.

If there is not one we should start one.

Glad to hear that you are back up and running. Your experience sounds very similar to mine. That is, keep uninstalling, cross your fingers and hope for the best. I have to assume that there's a better way than this. It makes the phone feel way too fragile.

By the way, just so I don't sound too negative, I wanted to pass along something cool that I was able to do recently with the phone that made me say, "Hey,this is pretty amazing".

So, I was using the "A Online Radio" app to stream a radio show from our local H.S. The station is small, only 100 watts, so being able to stream it lets me listen from virtually anywhere. That alone was pretty cool. However, I was curious about one of songs being played. So, I hit the home key, which kept the streaming radio going, and then started up Shazam. I was able to have Shazam listen to the other app on the phone and it successfully found the match and gave me the song info.

That really demonstrated the power in these small devices! :D

I enjoy the news function on the app the most and the weather seems to be more accurate than Beautiful Widgets and HTC

Just installed it, works pretty good except the numbers are cut off with the Weather widget. Can someone port the Desk Clock now please? lol

Edit: Here's a screenshot

Very Nice!

Hate to sound like a nooob also, but...

...how do I set it as a widget on the home screen?

I downloaded, installed and launched....but how do I make it a working widget that's always open? Can't find it under android widgets??

Thanks, The Weather is Kind of lame on it and since it is provided by weather.com, one would think it would match up with thats apps weather. On my phone Weather.com Actual widget is off by 2 degrees compared to the new version built into this widget.

Also - Phone does not sleep with this widget, just like beautiful widgets - So saddly, its another one for the Recylcle bin

The weather is redundant because I prefer the HTC weather widget. So how is the news portion better than the Associated Press app? Also, it seems really laggy... which I'm sad to say doesn't surprise me.

this will not install for me ....keeps telling me its unable to install on this device, i have unknown sources checked....any help ?

edit:nevermind....rebooted the phone and all is good now

I love it.

The Weather Widget I don't use since I prefer HTC's.

But the News Widget Blows away Any other news widget I have used so far. Its simple and has tons of news sources. Unlike AP or CNN which is single source.

Different strokes for different folks!
