I've been anxiously awaiting some news on the nexus one also. Anybody???

I might care. Im sure there are many others also. The evo may just be a bit too big for practical use. No arm band, no pockets, huge screen and huge battery hog.

I care as well and will get one over the EVO. As has been stated in other threads. The Evo will launch with 2.1 and 2.2 will be out around the same time. Then we will be playing the waiting game for Sprint to upgrade all over again. I wont be doing that this time, Give me a Nexus that will get the updates as they are released :)

Why do you think the Nexus One will get auto updates to the OS? I think Sprint will continue to tightly control the update process to ensure there are no problems with the radio. As unfortunate as that is.

Google controls the software on the Nexus. It does not come preloaded with Carrier specific apps. Google pushes the updates OTA as soon as they are available, no carrier approval needed and none from HTC required either.

Why do you think that? Can you link an official statement from someone at Google? Or T-Mobile/ATT/Sprint? There has not yet been a full OS upgrade on the Nexus One, so there is no history/example available. You certainly could be right, but it's all speculation at this point. Kind of like trying to guess phone release dates...

I believe that was the whole point of the Nexus 1 phone. It was the true Google Experience. Personally, I'd rather have the Evo or Incredible. The Google Experience is a little lacking. I'm beginning to hate my Moment just because stock email sucks and K9 does a horrible job at syncing my accounts. So I'm sticking with my Pixi until the Evo comes out. Why Google keeps gmail on a higher plane is beyond me. Just causes me to ditch the phone instead of switch to gmail.

I originally thought the same thing, but now I'm pretty sure that's a fan boy pipe dream. The carriers will not let official updates get pumped through without full testing. Of course rooting is always an option, but that's distinctly un-official.

The more I looked for someone in authority at Google, HTC, or a carrier to confirm it either in writing or in an interview, I realized I could find nothing. Perhaps I'm cynical from seeing the way Sprint has handled the Hero and Moment updates and Verizon with the Moto Droid, but everything I can find about the Nexus One pushes the hardware side of the equation as the reason it provides the 'true Android experience.'

well if it's the hardware, you'll have the Evo and then a successor to the Hero of some sort. Why would you need a third slate phone? Google already nixed the N1 on Verizon for good reason. I don't really see the purpose for it on Sprint unless it would be pure vanilla android. But that's just me.

I agree. It seems that the Incredible is close to the Evo, sans WiMax, so why should Sprint offer the N1 if the Evo will be better, well, with WiMax and all....

just my 2 cents..

The only reason I can see is for the smaller form factor. But if the N1 comes, then what succeeds the Hero? Hero owners will went a new device to go to with Sense.

I am already waiting to dump my Hero, thinking of the Evo instead of the N1. Maybe Oprah will trade me for it.... NOT!!!!!!!

By the way, rumor has it that the VERY long-awaited Hero update is coming on May 7th, but I'm not holding my breath.....

One problem with the no 2nd gen Hero with the N1 being out. The N1 isn't running Sense, and I doubt anyone who enjoys the Hero will want to go to vanilla android.

I'm pretty new here, but about a month ago wasn't the Hero's replacement supposed to be the Legend? What happened to that? It's like all rumors of that died.

I'm tied to Sprint and I don't have an Android phone yet, but I'm patiently waiting for a Hero 2. The EVO is far too large for me (ridiculously big in my opinion) and I'm really not that keen on the Nexus One.

The Hero was a pretty big success, why isn't Sprint saying anything about a successor? It's very frustrating.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a Hero, and when I do, that's when they'll release the Hero 2!

The Hero is currently $49.99 at the Shack, at least here where I live. That's for a new line of service or an upgrade (if you're eligible). It's an in-store only offer. It's hard to beat at that price.

Evo looks awesome...but maybe too big for some. I too would like options and a generic andriod without sprint influence. Since there has been no word on nexus one, i don't think it will happen. Wish it would :-)

Its not because i dont think sprint sprint accept unlocked phones anyways. Every ESN# must be registered through sprint. So sprint knows exactly whats out there in their systems.
