Root Nexus One (Stock Froyo) Experience

I'm looking to buy a phone soon... and while the hardware of the EVO really intrigues me, I was looking at trying to find a Nexus One, because I am a minimalist. I like google a lot... and feel like the base OS they made is probably the best option for me. Is there such a thing as a rom for just the basic froyo? I basically want the software the Nexus One would have just on the EVO. I've been suggested to use CM6, but it seems like there are a lot of "improvements" (thats not said in jest, I'm sure they are useful) the team has added to froyo... where as I just want froyo. Is that possible? Am I wrong to question CM6? Thanks for the help, and I apologize for noob'n up your board.

There is a thread over on xda where you can get stock aosp froyo and you can do anything you want to it
