Nexus One Vs Desire !!

Hi all.

Having REAL difficulty deciding what to get out of the Nexus One and the Desire.

I've read what the "experts" think , and they all seem to say the Desire.

I've had a fiddle with a Nexus and i liked it.

Also the potential to root etc is also a factor, and the Nexus i played on was rooted etc and some of the things he had were really awesome, however, am I right in guessing that the Desire can be rooted also..

Really hard choice.

Price isn't an issue as they're both around the same. I'm selling my T-mobile Mytouch 3g to get one of these so need s bit of advice from people that own the Nexus of Desire !!

Updates directly from Google would make the N1 a better buy imo.

I'd go with the Desire. That trackball on the Nexus one makes the phone look and feel OLD.

+1 for the Nexus for ease of root, quicker updates, no optical trackball.....

Go with N1. Best hacking community for any phone and you'll get 2.2 in a little bit.

Lots of people think so.

Then again, I've had Sense on my rooted N1 already and could have it back in 10 minutes any time I felt like it.

I do, but I know an awful lot of people out there love Sense. What's great about the N1 is having the choice.

Now, it's true that you can also root the Desire, but it looks like a pain in the neck -- unlike the N1, which was made to be deliberately easy. This ease is what has created a huge developer community for the phone that is way out of proportion to the numbers that have been sold.

Physical buttons in the front > Capacitive
HTC keyboard > Android Stock
Sense > Stock

Then again, im also biased for Sense UI but I can totally give you credit about the updates. Stock Android gets much deserved points! Honestly though I just think the desire is so much sexier.

Now why cant it come to Verizon instead of that irrelevant US Cellular that is only available in limited areas

Both phone seem nice if you ask me but you need to decide if you like sense or no sense , the touch screen on the nexus-1 have issues might want to research that and see it they fix it.if you like updates and want to be the first to have it then nexus-1 will get theirs first before all other android phones since its google flag ship phone.In the end the choice is yours i would play around with both phone and see what you like and don't like between the two.

+1 for the N1. Just being the first to get the updates is the best reason of them all. Don't be one of those posting on the boards asking "will we get the update this week?" -_-

I would say the desire... Really nice bit of kit, I do prefer the physical buttons on the bottom... but im biased hahaha

Desire's hardware buttons look ****ing ugly. The only thing it's got over the N1 hardware-wise is the trackpad, but I understand people have trouble with those. Plus, optical trackpads don't flash and helpfully indicate you have got a SMS, missed call, or a calendar event coming up. Oh, and it doesn't have a noise-canceling mic.

Don't wring your hands over the touchscreen problems. Why? Because the Desire uses exactly the same screen/touch sensor. Ipso facto whatever problem the N1 has, the Desire has got too.

HTC keyboard can be installed on any Android phone, no rooting needed. You can get Sense on your Nexus any time if you're rooted, but honestly, a lot of third-party launchers have developed to the point that Sense is no longer amazingly superior. Want the bouncy scrolling? Done. Want the pinch to preview home screen? So done. With a few apps on top, vanilla Android offers as much functionality as Sense--without making you put up with the cruddy fat bottom tab.
