Help Nexus S battery drains when turned off

My son's Nexus S seems to be discharging while turned off. He charges it overnight until it's at 100%, plays games on the going to school until it's around 80% and turns it off when he gets to school. When he turns it back on after school it's at around 20%. The phone is about six months old. All I can assume is that it is the battery.

Has anyone seen a problem like this and if so what was your solution?

You might want to check the games to see if they are still running even after the phone isn't being used. 60% drain seems like a lot but I've seen stranger things happen. You should be able to go into the Settings > Apps > Runnings Apps and see. If that's the case then check to make sure that games are being quit out of from a menu if there is an option.

It could also be the battery but I'd check the games first.

When you say "turns it off" do you mean that he actually shuts down the phone, as-in, holding down the power button and selecting "Power Off," or do you mean he puts it to sleep by pressing the power button to turn off the screen?

Have it checked at a service ,something from inside is eating the battery even when turned off ...it could be anything !
Before you go there ,you could try and put the battery away [remove it from phone] and leave it like that for 4-5h to see if the battery is faulty [batt. tend to discharge even if left aside if they are faulty !]

I had him charge the phone before bed last night, take out the battery and leave it that way all night. When he put it all back together this morning the battery was down about 20%.

Any recommendation on a new battery. This is a Nexus S 4G.

OK may do the stock battery. I've had others tell me the Anker batteries work pretty well in EVOs but haven't heard anything about the ones they make for Nexus. Thought someone might have feedback on different brands.

I have a nexus doing this too - draining from 100% to 0% overnight wit the phone completely off. It's a "new" non official battery. When the phone arrived the battery in there was completely dead too. I guess I have to try a third battery to confirm whether this is a phone hardware problem killing batteries or whether it's 2 bad batteries? Running CM10 but I doubt very much that matters since the phone is switched off.
