Help Nexus S bootloader destroyed

Hello all and an extra special hello to the one who can help me out :)

Here's a quick summary of my situation:

- Problem happened after I shut the phone down for several minutes to remove SIM card (I don't think the SIM is related)
- Device does not load OS, freezes on initial 'Google' screen
- Forcing a factory default and a cache clear, then rebooting does not help
- Connecting device via USB gets a "hey you connected something to me" sound from my PC, but I can't see the device nor enable USB syncing on the Nexus S
- Removing the battery and putting it back in is what I do for fun now (it does nothing)

The furthest I've gotten was to the initial setup steps, ie. linking your Google account. It usually freezes somewhere along the way. The very furthest I've gotten was to the actual interface of the device, but it would keep locking me out with an error message relating to a missing OS. I wish I had it or remembered it, I'll see if I can get it again.

At this point, my Nexus S does nothing. I downloaded ICS which I wanted to apply to the device, but I can't see it on any computer. At this point, what has to be done to repair it? I'm willing to through extremes here.
