Help Nexus S connection issues?

Anyone else experiencing this or know why it would happen.

I am a big supporter of Android, and I got my wife a Nexus S for Xmas. I already have a Nexus S, my phone is working fine. I can connect to Gchat, and the market with no issue. Her phone however, the 3G logo is gray instead of green, and she cannot connect to the market or Gchat. However if she connects to the web, it connects at 3G speeds.

My phone the bars on 3G are going up and down in strength as are hers, but my logo remains green and I still can connect to everything.

I don't want her to have a sour taste in her mouth about Android. Anyone know why this would occur? Thanks.

Ok so reading through other threads, I see that the Green just notates that she can connect to Google. So I don't understand why our phones would be different? Why would we have the same strength yet I can connect to Google and she can't? On Wifi she has no issue.

That is really the only option?? Has to be some technical explanation. I mean that is fine, but kind of a bummer considering it seems like such a good phone.

This suggests a network provider issue, try putting your sim in. It sounds like your wife's network is blocking access to google services. I'm assuming you are on different providers? If you are on the same, try comparing the settings in the mobile networks sections, particularly the APN details.
