Nexus soft notification sounds

I'm curious how loud peoples notification sound / ring tones are. I have the volume all the way up and the text message notification sounds are very soft. Even with the phone sitting on the desk. With the phone sitting on the screen it is a bit louder... I imagine I won't hear it at all if it is in my pocket.

Do others have this issue, or is it just my phone?

I use quick settings by halfbit and I control the volume individually for notifications and ringer volume. You should test it out.

My problem isn't setting the volume... it's that while the volume is set to max, the speaker still isn't very loud. Does quick settings let you set the volume higher than the stock settings?

Im not sure about quick settings allowing it to ring louder than the systems max volume but up until now i think my phone is too loud and I keep my volume at a 5 using that app and its plenty loud for me, including while out and about.
