NFL Mobile App update! Verizon is all rite with me!

Last night (9/7) at home I fired it up on my X and for the first time it started telling me I needed to subscribe to Vcast. Today at work it's back to working no problem. Something very strange going on here...

Were you on your wireless network at home by chance?

wait, so what do you need to get the nfl app to work? i can't even purchase the full nfs shift game because "i am not an active verizon member"? im on my 2nd droid and still cant get these two apps to work.

All you should need is just the app. whether or not you need to pay to get all the content, that is what is still some what of a mystery.
Just checked mine, its still not asking to subscribe. i guess in about 29 hours will know.

WTF?! Now I don't get the message anymore and I can watch vids! Maybe VZ saw all those bad 1 star ratings in the app market. Man people were saying that the app was one of the main reasons they got the X and would return it in their 30 day window. Or maybe its just a glitch and the VCast pay $10 BS will come back right b4 the Saints game!

I can watch the videos, and I just downloaded it 3 days ago. Maybe it depends on when you bought the droid x. I got mine on launch day.

Not sure if any of you DX owners noticed it yet but mines no longer free. After the new update few days ago, it was still working. Now when I open up the app, I'm getting a prompted msg to subscribe to Vcast. This sucks!

Well, updating to what I posted earlier, the app is working again without the prompt to subscribe to Vcast.

Weird!?!?...

I had to update mine a few days ago and the NFL app is still working fine on my DX. No prompts that I need to pay anything and still streaming the NFL network.

With all the conflicting reports it sounds to me like VZW is getting things ready to start charging for this sometime in the near future.

Well it was working for me but now it says my service plan does not allow this purchase so I have no idea what the deal is.

I'm watching the Saints v Vikes on my Droid X and this is good stuff. However I'm not getting full screen. I have bars down both sides of the screen. Do I need to adjust some settingd or add an app?

Same here...does it look squeezed to you?

I seem to be having the same problem. It's like watching SD TV station on a wide screen HD (for comparison). I don't see any settings to take up the full screen. Is this because of the way NBC is streaming it? Asking because during the game on regular TV, Verizon commercial came on, demonstrating the NFL app, and they showed the app / video screen of what appeared to be a live game, taking up the entire screen on the X. It is however playing very well streaming through wi-fi. With my old Sprint service, you had to use their TV app with 3G only, and it looked like crap.

I have no idea if it's NBC or the app itself. I'm sure there are some Verizon phones that only do 4:3, so maybe it's just like most TV, it caters to the masses. With that said, for a paid app (monthly at that), the video quality should match the display. I'm sure the app developer could detect the device and format the stream accordingly.

It's not sounds like, it IS.

The account holder of your phone has put a block on making purchases, and vCast is a purchase, ergo the error message.

its Verizon. they give us a lower bit rate to save on data. i bet it would look better on a phone with a smaller screen. i wish there was a trial, so i could so what the other stuff looks like.

What I'm referring to has nothing to do with bit rate. It looks like "anamorphic" squeeze applied to a 16:9 frame and fitting into a 4:3 area of the screen.

This exactly. I watched part of the Saints/Vikings game yesterday while waiting at the train station. It was crappy quality. Half inch black bar on each side and very pixelated. Sound was great though, i could still make out the score and you could see the plays.

I think i got lucky because i bought my DX off a dude from craigslist. But i have since reverted back to 2.1 (from the leaked 2.2) and done a total factory/master reset. But i still have the NFL network live. Did i slip under the radar? i checked my billing today and it doesn't say i have signed up for VCAST and i have never clicked a button agreeing to that or called into customer service asking them to add it.

anyways, it was super nice and convenient to be able to not miss any of the game last night...love verizon and android right now. but still going to Sprint in the Spring to save money :)

I can't view video without paying for the VCast service (been that way since I took delivery a couple weeks ago). I can listen to the audio feed but the device has to be on the NFL app AND the screen has to be active. When I lock the phone I love the audio. Anyone else had this happen? It can't possibly be right that I have to burn through battery with the screen on just to listen to an audio feed.

Yeah, I noticed that too. If I lock the screen, audio goes bye bye. Screen won't turn off if audio is streaming. Lame.
