Night Owls Club-grab some coffee

So I picked a good night to take a vacation day. My trainee just texted me and said that all the machines are down, and they had a saftey audit and handed out 14 write ups to people for being on their phones. Now we cannot have phones on the floor. How am I going to entertain myself now...

I mean of course when there is no work to be done;)

Anybody have any chainsaw techniques? I operated a chainsaw for the first time yesterday and it was fun. But I seemed to struggle a little bit at times.

I used the wedge techniuque and it worked out ok. I had some trouble with the bar getting pinched, and the chain getting pinched a little. I was only cutting smaller trees so it was not to bad. But when I start on much bigger trees I might have some trouble.

Anybody got any tips?

Sounds like you will need a better chainsaw for real.

Been awake 12 hours and have 9 more hours of work to go.... boo hoo :(

My tips are... always cut where the weight of the branch/tree opens the cut as you are cutting. Always keep you chain oiled. Wear tight fitting clothes. Rest often and never work fatigued. Plan every cut and ever fall carefully. Never hurry. Wear eye protection. Always cut with the bottom of the bar with the saw chucked against your work. And the #1 tip... Hire it out when you can. There are some helpful youtube vids out there. Have fun and be safe. A chainsaw can eat you up in a second.

Just got home from the watering hole. Feeling damned good. Probably gonna play a few games of NCAA 12 in a bit, I always seem to play better when drunk, or maybe I just think I do... im going with the latter...lol

Bought a Stihl chainsaw 250. Brand new. Sales guy started it at the store and showed me how to use it. Brought it to my property and the mother@#$% would not start. A.N.G.R.Y.

Good times. Just like driving. I always think I am better when I am drunk.

Just kidding. I don't drive drunk. Its not funny. Stop laughing. Oh, you are not laughing? Well good. Becuase it is serious business. You might spill your beer.

My first chainsaw story: I purchased a fine tool to gather some wood for my daughter's birthday party. I bought an outdoor fireplace and all the girls were going to cook their own hot dogs on the fire and later roast marshmallows. Well.. I go cut my wood and loaded it into the truck.
I though.. I might just cut up a bit more for while I was at it. The darn thing would not start for love nor money. I took it back to where I bought it and demanded another. They did not have another one so they gave me my money back. I drove home with my load of wood.. had a wonderful experience with my daughter and her friends and wasn't out much money.

As Oldbriar said, always make sure of where the weight of the tree you are cutting is hanging. best thing to do is make a small back cut opposite the way you want to cut so it won't split and wreak havoc (similar to the wedge technique you speak of). There are a lot of techniques to felling, most of which I don't know. just be careful and know your limits. Arboristsite.com has been a good resource for me even though I'm not a full blown member. They have some great forums there...

Bored eh? You work for an airline, right? Maybe you should try the ol' swap underwear, just the underwear, from two peoples luggage routine... I'd think that'd keep you amused for a bit. :D:p
