Root Nils business ICS sense. Help

Two issues with this rom that I need help with.

First, when I restored my apps and such with mybackup root, everything worked fine, but I lost my phone icon. Its as if its not even on the phone anymore. When I try to add the app to my home screen, it is not an option. Any work around for this? Not a big deal, just kind of annoying.

Second, my navigation voice guidance does not work. The nav works fine, but there is no voice guidance. I have played with all the volume settings and checked in the language and keyboard > speech settings and that all looks fine. I can even listen to the example. I also downloaded the speechsynthesis ENG-USA voice thing and still, nothing. Any help?

Thanks

what all did you restore with mybackup? if you reestored anything more than user apps, then i would reccomend to rewipe, reinstall the rom,and start over, only restoring user apps.

maybe a fresh install will help with the voice navigation- i havent run the current business sense yet,but the voice(i assume youre refering to the phone talking to you, correct?) as worked fine for me in past versions of business, and works fine on the stock rom that its based on. i assume you have media audio turned up to an acceptable level?

last thing i can think of ,is are you s-on or off? if s-on,how did you install the rom/kernel? if the kernel install wasnt successful, the rom shouldnt be booting with a GB kernel, but kernel mismatches can have some strange affects

Thanks for the help. I have actually been running business gingersense for quite some time and have never had an issue. I just wanted to try ICS and as stable as the other one is, I was hoping his ICS build was just as good. I was wrong. Still a lot of bugs with ICS. Oh well, it was worth a shot. Im back on his gingerbread build now. Might just keep this one until its time for a new phone. It just works.

I've been using the newest version of ICS business sense for a few weeks (The 5/30 build I guess). I have voice navigation and phone icon. Really no issues to speak off other than the random force close or "sorry the process has stopped" pop-up. VERY stable rom. I think probably something went wrong when you were installing.

I agree. Only problem so far is a occasional screen lockup. The clock keeps saying to set time. I used Easy Installer to bring things off my sd card.

I reinstalled it and the voice guidance still didn't work. Uninstalled the maps update and it worked. Reinstalled the maps update, and it continued to work. So, it works now lol. And the phone icon was because of my mybackup pro restore. I had done a back up with different icons on my lock screen and those icons overwrote the tray icons which was the only place the phone icon can be found. So, that issue is resolved now too. Only problem I really have with ICS now, is that it is soooo damn slow and my battery life is horrible now. Scrolling is supper choppy and it lags so much when hitting the back button. My battery on Business gingersense was only down to about 40% from 7am to 11pm with moderate use. Today, I barely even looked at it, didn't even send a single text today, and had to plug it in by 6pm.

I like the features of ICS, but I don't like the lag and choppy scrolling. Im torn whether to switch back to gingerbread. :(

my battery life is fine and i dont have any lag or choppiness, even with sense 4 rom im running

if you are restoring system data from gingerbread to ICS,then it is not fair for you to blame the rom. gb and ics frameworks are different,so restored system data isnt ending up in the same places- its causeing alot of confusion to your phone. even when roms use the same or similar framework/filesystems restoring system data can cause laggienss and force closes that make the user experience very poor.

i would suggest giving it a shot without restoring so much. i know re-setup is a pain, but its worth the efforts to have a smooth rom. the only thing you should be restoring with my backup or tibu is apps.

The only thing I restored the second time around was my contacts. Everything else, I started from scratch. After a few days, it seems the choppiness and lag are better, but the battery life still sucks. I have been testing it today. The only time I have turned the screen on is every two hours to check the battery usage. Other than that, haven't touched it at all. It is averaging a loss of 27% every two hours. Thats no emails, no texts, not even turning the screen on at all except to check the battery usage every two hours. It says maps is using 25% of that, yet maps is not running. Ive check the running processes and maps is not one of them. Cell standby is taking 30% and the display is taking the rest. The display only being on for maybe a total of 1 minute in the last 6 hours is somehow using 45% of my battery usage. Im stumped. I suppose I can do one more reinstall and wipe everything again and see what happens, but most likely, Im just going to go back to gingerbread. Which sucks because I really like the new features in ICS.

Edit: After doing a little looking around today (outside of this site, because things are a little outdated here) I found that I was on an old build ICS 4.0.1 and Sense 3.5. So I found 4.0.4 with sense 4.0 and am installing it now. Fingers crossed that this one doesn't kill my battery lol

did you install the latest version of business sense? if so,its based on our most current leak, that will likely be the software that is pushed to phones,so id not really call it "outdated" ;)

while it may not be 4.04 and sense 4.0,ive not had any worse battery life with it than i had on GB,or any of the leaks. i will admit that the early leaks i was lucky to get 5-6 hours out of the heavy abuse i put ,my phone thru.(same battery life i got an GB) but something "clicked" on either this last leak or the one beffore, and its defiantely been a lil better.

this is pretty typical of my useage on conrom,or newts inc 4g port:

here it is from today, again pretty typical of conrom or newts rom on a sunday when i dont pester it as much:

The first one I installed came from the "current list of ROMs" sticky with just the kernal that came with it. Obviously, a really old build. Earlier today, I installed the most recent RUU leak as well as the most recent business ICS sense ROM. Restored my contacts and apps. So far so good. Not laggy at all, and took it off the charger about an hour and 45 minutes ago and only lost 7% since then (It wasn't at a full charge when I took it off but went from 87 down to 80.) Huge improvement. Ill let it go for a full charge tomorrow and see what happens. But so far, Im loving this build.
