Help No accounts will sync at all. Please help!

Hello folks,

I've been using my new HTC Wildfire S for about 5 days now. All was going swimmingly the first 3 days, and I was getting very used to my phone and had downloaded some apps and done some minor customization (no rooting of phone however).

A day and a half ago, unbeknownst to me, everything stopped working. I initially thought yesterday that just my Gmail wouldn't download new messages. But it turns out after further investigation this morning, ALL my accounts won't sync at all. When I go to the "Accounts & Sync" screen under Settings, they all show the same thing. The last time they were synced was Sat, Dec 17, 2011 8:53 PM, frozen forever.

No amount of manual tinkering will make them sync again. I can still get my Yahoo! Mail on my phone, but only by opening this app and letting it do its thing, it doesn't actually use the native sync function. The Google (Gmail) app, HTC Sense, and Weather, doesn't do anything at all, and since I already cleared out all the old mail and data under Google to try to fix it, it just gives me the black screen "Your email will appear shortly." constantly, with the title "Waiting for sync" at the top.

A little help please? I've tried literally everything that could possibly be obvious preventing Gmail or other apps from syncing and nothing has worked. Even the "sync now" functions don't do anything.

There seems to be some Running Service which is not operating correctly that would allow this problem to happen? Does anyone know what it would be, so I can possibly force it to stop and then restart my device, which could hopefully cure it? I already tried finding this once, but so far to no avail...

Any other suggestions you might have would be appreciated. I've read multiple threads about syncing and nothing specifically describing this problem.

I tried a bunch more things, cleared significantly more memory from some apps (even though my device did not indicate low memory), deleted one unneeded app and then I was suddenly able to sync. Will keep an eye on this in the future.

2 questions:

- is there an easy way to change the settings for Low Memory Wizard so I can customize when I want it to run easily? I can only ever seem to get to this screen when it runs automatically. I tried going into All Apps and trying to select it by name but that didn't get me anywhere.

- in the process of fixing my sync problem, I went into Contacts (People) and unchecked Yahoo and Google (didn't wish to sync these to my phone right now) but KEPT the one marked Phone checked. anyway through clicking various things somehow all my People are wiped out (fortunately there were not many yet as I was still updating these).

Is there a way to fix this?? Because the contacts are still in my phone somewhere, they're just not visible when I open People and click All. only my own contact info is shown. yet if I go to Messages and click on the contact person's name from a text msg, then I can see their contact card.

Thanks!

Also, this thread was somewhat helpful for my sync problem, at least to give me some ideas:

I believe this is an issue unique to HTC phones. Someone here will be able to help you out.

Not sure about changing the parameters for the low memory wizard, but if you head to Settings -> SD & Phone Storage -> Make more space available, that brings up the same thing.

As for your contacts, open the phone book, hit menu, then view and it should give you a list of what numbers you want to display.

Does that help?

oh yeah, that was it... I thought I might have unchecked something but couldn't remember, and didn't find any way to get it back. mucho thanks!!! :)

also the linking thing was starting to drive me mad, because in my effort to try to see all contacts again I had started linking them to duplicate contacts I may had inadvertently created (but didn't really want). that only got me so far.....

It seems that you need at least 15 MB free phone memory for synching. Below this threshold you get no error message, but synching will just not take place. Which makes the Wiildfire S next to useless as a diary.
