No Atrix Unlock method yet

So if the code doesn't work the first three time...you're basically screwed for the next 8 hours!!!
But that's only if you enter the wrong code or type the code incorrectly. When you enter the unlock code, you'll know if it's a working code on the first try as it will either unlock the phone or give an error/retry message. So basically if it doesn't work on the first or second try, the code is wrong and you will need to get a refund and/or a new code from someone else. Reports indicate "Cellunlock.net" works and they offer a 50% discount, so hopefully it'll work fine for the Bell model when it gets released (I don't see why it wouldn't). My wife has a Bell account so if I decide to buy one, I can test the phone fully with her SIM before unlocking it and using it on my account.

Ah, lol, that does make sense. :P Since you have the Desire, I'm guessing you're with Telus.

Nope...I'm on Robbers, er I mean Rogers. I bought the Desire outright the first day it was available (Aug 2010), unlocked it after a couple days playing with it thoroughly, and have been happy with it ever since. I flashed generic firmware onto the phone too so I could use the EDGE network when I'm out in the boonies (the Telus firmware deliberately blocks 2G data ), and that also gave me the freedom to update to Froyo much earlier than Telus users which was nice. My wife wants my phone, so if I get the Atrix, she'll get my Desire and we'll all be happy campers.
:D

I just checked out the site and it costs like $40 for the code. how did you manage to snap a 7.50 for the code?
Don't use the link for the Atrix unlock, use the link to unlock Motorola phones, and then use the 50% discount code.

I have just order my unlock code from cellunlock.net today (3/18/2011) and will update with info. if this work or not for my Atrix.

Look like they close the loophole with unlocking the Atrix... see below from my order.

Dear Customer,
Thank you for your order, unfortunately the Motorola Atrix codes are no longer available using this service. We can get the code for your phone but you need to purchase the Atrix unlock service which takes 1-3 Business Days. Here is the correct link
Unlock Your AT&T Motorola Atrix 4G phone by Code | CellUnlock.net

We will cancel and refund this order. Sorry for any inconvenience.

The codes are still available, don't be alarmed at all. The issue is greed and the high demand for the codes, along with access to the unlock database, is jacking up the prices. A friend bought the Atrix yesterday and had an unlock code in about 40mins when he ordered during the morning. It cost him $20, but he got it just fine and unlocked his Bell Canada model Atrix.

Remember that unlocking is a business, and they're in it to make money, not to satisfy users (beyond an unlock code that is).

I had to reorder mine and I had to pay $39.99 for mine. I order mine late friday night (3/18/2011) so I hope i'll get my unlock code buy Tuesday the 22nd of March. BTW how long does it take for them to send you the unlock code?

All,
I order mine from cellunlock.net on 3/18/2011 and got mine today 3/23/2011 just now. The code does work on my first try. Tested with Thailand sim & T-mobile (USA) works great. I had to pay $39.99 to unlock mine. FYI.

I purchased and used the unlock code which said it was succesfull. I was able to "see" the carrier for my simm but I still have the "SIM card is removed or changed. (DUH!) Log in to your MOTOBLUR account to unlock." message.

I registered a Motoblur account on the internet days ago and I can log into it from my computer, but when I input the same login/passwd info on the phone, it say it's incorrect and to try again.

HELP! What should I try???

Thanks

I was able to get everything working the following day. First I used the unlock code to free it from ATT's grasp.

Then I did a "hard reset". This was a bit tricky since most of the instructions said to hold down the camera button when powering up the phone. Problem is there is no camera button so found another thread that said to use the volume down button when booting, then move thru a couple of menus until you get to the hard reset selection.

Once that was done, you have to use the phone to establish a new motoblur acct. Once I did that, everything worked.

Hey guys i really need some help. Ok so im not too good with technology and stuff but i know that by unlocking a phone means that u can insert a sim card from any phone company and it will work on the phone, true? now i wana buy a new phone preferably the motorola atrix and im also looking into the thunderbolt and HTC (unlocked versions) because i dont live in the USA or Canada and i want to be able to use it with a different phone company which is still GSM compatible (which i guess you need for those phones) so i geuss the internet should still work and everything on the phone but 4G internet service has not been released here yet but im sure the 3G will still work. Now will buying an unlocked version of these phones allow me to use it with a completely different sim card and in a different continent or will i still need like ATT coverage or other american phones companies etc. Plus not only will the calling and texting work but will the internet also?

Thanks in advance.

First off, the Thunderbolt is a CDMA phone, so most likely, it will not work in your country if your carriers use GSM/HSPA(UMTS). Second off, carriers don't sell phones unlock, that's through a 3rd party and they usually charge you $100+ more for a sim unlock version. It's cheaper if you can buy it at off contract price and then get an unlock code for $20.

Check the frequencies that your carrier uses but most likely anything on either AT&T or TMobile (US) should work on Europeans/India/Austrailia and some Asian countries for both voice and data.

Atrix's Network frequencies:
    • GSM: GSM - Global System for Mobile communications. A world standard for digital cellular communications using narrowband TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access), which allows up to eight calls at a time on 800 MHz and 1800 MHz frequencies. Introduced in 1991. Is the standard most commonly used in Europe and Asia, but not in the United States. GSM phones use a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) smart card that contains user account information. Any GSM phone becomes immediately programmed after plugging in the SIM card, thus allowing GSM phones to be easily rented or borrowed. SIM cards can be programmed to display custom menus for personalized services.GSM provides a short messaging service (SMS) that enables text messages up to 160 characters in length to be sent to and from a GSM phone.
      • 850, 900, 1800, 1900
    • UMTS: UMTS - Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service, also called WCDMA, is a 3G (Third Generation) packet-based transmission of text, digitized voice, video, and multimedia at data rates up to 2 Mbps. It is based on GSM standard and is supported by major standards bodies and manufacturers

I was looking through eBay and found unlock codes being sold for $17 and up. Seems like its worth trying to save a few bucks, paypal buyer protection if it doesnt work.

hey let us know how ebay works for ya!

Thanks!

I tried the e-bay one, they said they couldnt unlock it. Didnt give me a reason why.

I then tried "theunlockshack.com" and they couldnt unlock it. Didnt give a reason why.

I think the last 2 were just calling AT&T with my IMEI number and got the same answer I did. Which was sorry, exclusivity agreement owns you! Not till December.

Now, my third attempt to get an unlock code is with swiftunlocks.com. Hopefully they will be able to get me a code.

Honestly, I am tired of ATT and this exclusivity BS. Technically, they are not the exclusive sellers, on a wold wide basis. Only in the states. I'm not in the states, I'm in Afghanistan and I need a phone that works! I had one person tell me they didn't care where I was and they weren't going to give me an unlock code.

Anyone else had any luck getting a code lately? Please help if you have.

The manufacturer will ask you to contact your carrier for the unlock code. The carrier usually has a database of unlock codes (provided by carrier) for recent phones. They will have to contact the carrier to get it if the phone is more than a few years old.

You may be able to contact Motorola for an unlock code. If memory serves that's where AT&T will be getting them anyway.

I just unlocked my phone! It took a few days to get the code but swiftunlock.net got it. I guess its true, third time is a charm.

Now Im on MTN Afghanistan with my Atrix! I exchanged a few email messages with Swift and within a few days I had the code. Great customer service and a reasonable price. I would suggest swiftunlock.net to anyone who is having a problem getting a code like I was.
