No birthday reminders after 4.12 update..

Hi

After my 4.12 update the stock calendar has disappeared, and there appears to be no way to set reminder for birthdays in contact list.

Why has the calendar gone ?

And is there a way to setup birthday reminders without installing another app ? This should be a basic function built into phone software surely..
