No Bluetooth Voice Dial?

I just got a new bluetooth headset, and I set it up with my Hero only to find *gasp* no voice dialing? SAY WHAT?! The whole point of having the headset is to not have to look at the phone while driving! The owner's manual of the Hero says it supports hands free profiles, as does my headset(obviously) but there's no voice dial. Unbelievable!

Yes this is something that has not worked from day one, hopefully they will fix this one day, I agree one of the main reason we get a BT
 
This has been an issue with Android, not just our handsets, since the very beginning of the operating system's existence. Unfortunately, there is no true fix for our handsets at the present moment.

However, Bluetooth voice dialing via a headset has been implemented in Android 2.2. The only problem is that the Sprint HTC Hero probably will not get this update officially. Your only choice will be to root your handset. It seems worth it to me though.
 
I'm already rooted, I'm using Fresh 2.1.2... Is there another ROM that supports voice dial?
 
I am not sure there is at the moment for the Sprint HTC Hero. Unless someone has baked in the Bluetooth voice dialing functionality from Android 2.2 into an Android 2.1 ROM, I do not think it is possible yet.

In due time you will definitely be able to use a Bluetooth headset to voice dial from your Sprint HTC Hero. I just hope it is sooner rather than later.
 
Me too. It's just irritating, I can still use it in the car, and i can dial/call people from my contacts without actually looking at the phone but i don't like to even have to pick the phone up when i'm in the car.
 
Guess I'm not the only one who misses this feature. My old Instinct phone had that feature and I loved it. I hope someone cooks something up for the Hero soon.
 
There is no Bluetooth voice dialing for the Sprint HTC Hero Android 2.2 ROM? I hope that is supported in the future because I will definitely be moving to Android 2.2 eventually.

How does Android 2.2 run on your handset? Is it buggy or stable?
 
I have a Moto Droid 1, and was not happy when I found out that it did not support bluetooth voice dialing. I had gotten used to it on my LG Chocolate Touch, and I missed it.
Today, my daughter gave birth to my second grandson, and while I was travelling to her home to see her and the baby, I thought I would try bluetooth voice dialing once more in my car, and Lo and Behold, it worked. I don't know if this is a function of launcher pro plus, or if something else that I downloaded supports it, but I am in Droid heaven!

What make of bluetooth do you have? I loved the voice dial with my Insticnt. I've had the Jawbone Icon now for three months. It is awsome. You can install 7 different voices on it plus voice dial, my favorite, etc. I installed the A2DP and it is great. I now get Pandora radio, volume settings, game tones, the voice mail app, and most any other thing through it. But not voice dial! So if you ever find out what made it work please let us know. TC :D
