Help (No)Custom ringtone problem

ljproud

Lurker
Hi,

I tried putting mp3 files in the sdcard/Ringtones (the folder that was already created on my phone.)

But when I back out to system settings then go to sound, I cannot find my mp3's anywhere.

Some app put "Join Hangout" as an option if I click the add + in the corner, but that's all I can find outside the standard ringtone package.

At someone's recommendation I have also created a ringtones folder in sdcard/media and copied the mp3's there to no avail. I have also rebooted my phone.

(Of course it's a metro if that matters)

Any help would be appreciated, as it doesn't seem like anyone else shares my problem.

Go to music player press and hold on the mp3 you want. Click on set as ringtone.
If you want to set a ringtone for a specific person then download a file browser. When editing the contact press on the ringtone and choose your file browser. Find the mp3 you want and pick it

I was trying to access it through settings with the little plus sign but they don't show up there.

I can access the files I added through AstroFile, and when I open them through AstroFile it plays them on music players little player (that lets you play, scroll, and pause). But then when I actually open music player I can't find my songs. All categories are empty, including folders. I had added them with a usb cord if that makes any difference.

I now have at least one of these .mp3's in the following folders:

mnt/sdcard/Ringtones
mnt/sdcard/notifications
mnt/sdcard/my_music
mnt/sdcard/my_music/db
mnt/sdcard/Music
mnt/sdcard/Alarms (just to see if I could find it in alarms.)

The ones I created in media which are:
mnt/sdcard/media/Ringtones
mnt/sdcard/media/audio/Ringtones

and can still only access it through Astrofile. Augh, I must be missing something painfully obvious.

Yeah get rid of astro file and use es file explorer it will give you multiple ways to set a mp3 as ringtone easiest is to open the file in es and it will ask you if you want to open it with es media player, after you open it with es media player there will be a Lil bell in the top right corner click and select the option you want also with root use es to copy and paste file to the folder of your choice once you mount as writable within es options

Thanks, that worked really well!

I don't understand why ES needs permission to view my phone calls though. Is there any way to prevent it from doing that? I guess I could just force stop it from app settings until I want to use it, then re-open it?

Edit: Or maybe I need to backup my whole phone and start playing around with permissions in root. I've got a lot to learn.

That's weird though. I just made 3 ringtones and 2 notification sounds and placed them in the appropriate folders already there and rebooted and they work fine. Although I named the files ringtone, notification etc. Don't know if that matters.

Don't worry about es needing phone permission es is a complete file system browser with root permissions and if its given permission to mount system as writable you can copy and paste any file up to the root folder something not many apps can do. It doesn't call home or anything so don't worry about permissions. Its only because of the capabilities that es has. But any way lg stock media/music payer cab set any mp3 as ringtone as well so will winamp. You don't need es to do it I just recommend it to everyone cause its all around usefulness

You can use lucky patcher or ROM Toolbox Lite to remove the phone permission :)
