Help no data connection on some apps

My Desire HD seems to think that there is no data connection when i am trying to use certain apps like Facebook or even the Google Play Centre. The thing is, I can connect to the internet using the normal browser, and a few other apps. it is the same when using wifi to connect. I've also managed to connect to the net through my laptop when using the DHD as a wifi hotspot so there definitely is a good data connection.
It seems to have started since i dropped my phone yesterday and the battery came out.

The DHD's antennae are in these back covers ... so, after that dropping, can you make calls?

Purely speculation: Some apps need permissions for phone connections, e.g. FaceBook wants to be able to send text (SMS).
