Help No email notifications

Apparently it's an ongoing issue.
Anyone knows why phone does not show gmail notifications in notifications bar anymore?
Safely assuming, it was one of the updates that did it. It does receive emails, sync works fine, I can open gmail account on the phone, and it will show "3 new", but no notifications.
I noticed same happening with other phones. Wife's SIII has same issue.
Hence, it's not my particular phone.
Is it a way for those in power to push install of some notification s/w off Playstore?

If there were, there'd be a lot of guns being held to the heads of a lot of executives of some certain company located in eastern Asia to have them issue fixes for the dozens of things their "fixes" have broken. Important things, like OTA bricking of phones.

No, all we can do is hope that they wise up, or that we consumers start putting our money into manufacturers who treat us better.
