Just connected the tab to usb port for the update via kies (prior to this update) i could connect to kies now it appears that i can't since trying to update.Current update on the system is 4.0.3 i don't believe the update finished and nothing has changed on my system other than i now can't connect to kies via usb port.Is this a Kies issue or a tab issue and has anyone a fix for the problem?

Current update is now 4.0.4 so it's updated but the above hardware id problem is still there and can't connect to kies and although i'm plugged into the usb port and both the tab and computer say so

Rang Samsung support up they phoned me back and resolved the issue, ithink out of all of this it has made me happy knowing they have atleast where i was concerned a good customer service :)

What was the resolution??

I'm having this same problem now. The weird part is that it worked fine an hour ago. I installed Kies to the PC in order to get the latest software updates, plugged my Tab 2 7.0 into the USB port, and Kies recognized it. I didn't install the Tab firmware update because it cautioned me to have a full charge (I was at 71%).

I charged the Tab back to full, and now I'm getting the HARDWARE ID NOT FOUND error.

Uninstall Kies download Kies off the samsung website again, switch off your router
Then install Kies(again important that at this stage Kies has NO access to the internet) once the program starts up after install plug the tab into the usb point. it should again pick it up once it does switch the internet back on.

According to support if the internet is running instead of trying to get the device drivers from the pc ie the kies program. windows will try and download drivers off the internet. i did all the above and it worked first time around :)

It's important to mention that the wifes tab is only 2 weeks old and so i was able to recognise this was a fault with Kies and not the tab/pc. BUT prior to me asking support about the problem i had done an uninstall then re-install the only difference was that i didn't know about the internet so had it running as always.

Hope this helps i'd suggest a full charge aswell just to dot the I's ;)

Thank you for the detailed reply!

However, I managed to solve the problem by simply unplugging the Tab from the computer USB port and then kept plugging it back in until it recognized the device.

Crazy stuff.

Anyway, it worked, and I got the latest firmware update. :D
