Help No HDD from DINC2??!?

Just when I thought things were getting sane...

I plugged my DINC2 into a laptop to move some tunes to the DINC2 and... no DINC2! All I can find is that dratted VZW partition that wants to install bloatware on the laptop. Is it my imagination or didn't the DINC2 show up as two drives, the one with the VZW stuff, and a second, showing the "good stuff" for the DINC2 - photos, music, video, etc., as well as the system stuff.

The last time I saw it was when the phone was a Froyo device and now it's got GB. I tried a number of connection options and none gave me access to music, etc. Did something change here?

I guess I'll suck it up and stuff the micro-SD in a holder and read it that way... sigh...

I've hooked it up since GB and it still showed as two separate drives. That would suck to have to install that VZW bullsh*t.

Do you remember what connection option (charging, etc.) you picked? Also, I assume this was a USB connection, right?

By default when you plug in the usb cable the phone is in "charge mode only" and you see just the VZW partition. You have to select "disk drive" and "done". Then you will see an additional partition which includes the folders for music, pictures, etc.

I dunno... maybe I didn't do it correctly, but I tried the hard drive option and nothing worked. An hour later, I tried it again and it worked. Go figure...

After you plug your phone in, just close the VZW dialog box that appears. Wait and a second will appear when your phone shown the connection options. This is where you will see two drives. Thank VZW for this hassle.

For what it's worth, two drives appear because they are in fact two separate memory devices - the internal phone memory and the SD card - so I don't think we can blame VZW for this. There are however quite a few other things we can blame them for :D

Yes, I know there are two drives because of two types on memory. I can blame VZW because it's their bloatware that causes this first box to appear. If you click on this box to install the VZW software you will only see one drive and it's not your SD card content. So yes, I blame VZW for this.

To repeat, I can get to the SD again. Why it wouldn't work remains one of those annoying mysteries in beta-land (see .sig below...).

As to the VZW "drive" - I've wondered if the contents can't be formatted out of existence. Probably the partition's booby-trapped to brick the phone if formatting is attempted, but I might as well ask.

To get rid of the verizon popup whenever you plug in the phone:

1. Open the dialer.

2. Dial ##7764726 and tap Call. (If you run Call Confirm, you will have to uninstall it before you do this, then reinstall when you are done.)

3. When the password box comes up, enter 000000 (six zeros) and press OK.

4. Choose Feature Settings.

5. Choose CD-ROM.

6. Select Disable.

7. Press Menu and commit modifications. It will say "No item changed" but that's ok.

Now when you connect the phone, it won't try to install all that VZW junk.

I also used this to change my slot cycle from 2 to 1. I learned this from my old Eris. This setting changes the timeframe in which your phone scans the cell towers for incoming calls. The stock setting is 2, but if you change this to 1 or 0, it will check more often. The Eris had an issue where people would call you, but your phone might not pick up the call until the second or third ring. By the time you reached the phone the voicemail might have the call. I haven't had this issue with my Inc2, but I changed it anyways.
