Help No map displayed in Google Navigation

Lurker
I'm having a problem with Google Maps, or, more specifically, Navigation. Navigation works, ok, I don't (usually) get the error some others get where it gets stuck "waiting for location." Voice directions, exit signs, ETAs and distances all work but no map is displayed. That whole middle section of the Navigation screen is blank. I've tried changing layers in the settings menu but still nothing.

I just flashed xtrSense 5.0.1, after running kaosfroyo v39 for a couple months. When I first flashed kaosfroyo, I remember Navigation working correctly for a little while. Then, it stopped. I chalked it up to having rooted and re-flashed my previously OTA-updated Eclair Eris. So, thinking if I went back to Eclair, it might solve the Navigation map troubles, I flashed xtrSENSE this morning--because I didn't want to lose ALL the coolness of froyo by going back to a "vanilla," Eclair ROM--and the problem has persisted. I tried clearing my Maps cache under "Manage Applications," but that didn't work either.

What am I missing?

No advise or input? I'd really like my map display to work again. Going on a trip next week and I'm planning on my phone navigating me there.

I'm not sure, but the problems with Navigation under the Froyo ROMs is well-documented. There is a problem where GPS will reset after about 20 minutes of constant connection with the Cyanogen based ROMs (as almost all of the Froyo ROMs are), which I have seen both in Navigation and in the RunKeeper app.

The Gingerbread ROMs GSB and Condemned CM7 do not have this problem. I do not have the same problem in xtrSENSE that you describe. Do you have a live 3G connection at the time that you are trying to navigate? If you do not have a data connection, then obviously the phone will not be able to download map information.

You can try flashing Condemned CM7 (I like it more than GSB, though both are really ok) and see if that works better for you.

By the way, have you checked the market to make sure that you are on the latest version of Google Maps and Street View?

Yes, I've tried 3 different times since flashing xtrSENSE with the same result--which is, no displayed map, all the other functionality available (route distance and ETA, audible turn prompts, etc.). I'm quite sure I've had a 3G connection each time.

I just updated Maps from the Market on Monday or Tuesday, hoping this might help but will double check. I did not realize there was a separate Street View app in the Market? I'll look for that.

Update: Yes, I have ver. 5.4.0 of Google Maps installed with no available update in the Market. Went searching for Street View and found it but this is not (apparently) the functionality I'm missing. I'm missing the displayed map with the blue arrow representing you as you travel down a given road. The "overhead view," if you will.

Gotcha. I so rarely use Navigation that I think it's been a long, long time since I used it on xtrSENSE (if ever). I did use it a few weeks ago on my phone, but I think I had GSB on at the time.

The next chance that I get I'll try Nav and see what I get. That should be tomorrow, though maybe I'll make up an excuse to go for a drive tonight. ;)

I'll let you know what I see.

I don't use maps or navigation very often either except to test for the most part or if I need a quick view or general idea of where I need to go. I wish I could offer you a little more assistance but doogald pretty much covered everything I could think to try as well. I've never had this issue at all on any Rom I've used but if I come across anything that may help I will pass it your way.

Sorry to say that it worked perfectly for me this morning. I don't know what to tell you.

Perhaps go into the market, choose Maps and then uninstall updates and see if it works better? That said, I am using the latest and greatest Maps for Android and it worked just fine this morning.
