No more speed dial?

With the update of 4.1.2 I no longer can find a way to speed dial. Has that gone away or am I overlooking it? I don't want to use Google Voice (voice command) to do it sometimes. Is there still a way to speed dial?

Thanks for the solution, Thom. For some reason I can't get the widget to go to my home screen. I've got slot and t's only a 1x1 - I haven't seen that before. I'll keep working on it and thanks again.

You need press and hold, then drag the widget to the home screen location ( or other screen )... then it will ask you which contact to use with it

I see. Thanks but that's a lot more trouble than speed dialing. I guess they're trying to push Google Voice to dial numbers. The problem with Google is most of their apps seem to find a way to take over a lot more than I want them to.

I actually don't see it as more trouble than making a speed dial listing... just different. Once the direct dial shortcut is made... just click it and done.

I did add one additional step to mine... I made a couple, then dragged one on top of the other to make a folder. So now, I click to open the folder and then tap on the one I want to dial. The folder can hold as many as you would like but takes up no more space than one icon on the screen.

And try ...
*86,xxxx#1
... where xxxx is your password/access code.

... Thom

Thom forgot to mention why you'd want that as a direct dial etc...

The *86 is used to access the Verizon voice mail... I'm certain many here know that... but I don't see a reason to assume that they do.
