No more unlimited from V?

Me buying my own devices is still cheaper than paying for the 11gb I used last month... Some months i use 2gb.. This summer I'm burning thru it. Even if unlimited data ends, new plans will be different anyway as Voip is coming and with so many hot spots around its going to create competition. You will be able to make or receive calls on 4g/ or wifi, so the need for a cell phone will drop dramatically, as will revenues from voice plans... Things will keep evolving and changing. I remember the day I got my ozg Motorola droid, I was forced into unlimited data, lol. I didn't want it. That was almost 3 yrs ago.. Now I don't want to let it go..

True, unlimited data has become a "safety net" of sorts for many customers. For someone like Raw Dodge, who sometimes uses 11GBs per month, it may be worth it to pay the cost required to keep his unlimited data plan. But I think like I said in my previous post he isn't your typical Verizon customer. I think the typical customer uses less than 2GB of data. Myself, I use about .5GB. my wife uses about .7GB and my daughter (who's in college) uses about 1.1GB per month. So our monthly total averages between 2GBs and 2.5GB per month, so we should be ok with a 4GB shared data plan. With our data discount of 20% we can actually save $14 by switching to a shared data plan. If we should find it necessary to purchase the 6GB plan, we should still save about $4 by switching. But of course by switching we loose the safety net provided by unlimited data.

Time will tell. As of now, I just hoping the rumors are true that the Razr Maxx HD will be released on 10/18/12! :smokingsomb:

My fiance has unlimited as well she uses about 4gb a year... So I don't feel bad using 11gb last month.. That's my record high I'm usually in the area of 1.5-3gb, but summer months i use more winter under a gb a month as I work from home and have wifi.

With respect to the aforementioned safety net, I believe this is a much bigger deal than most people seem to realize for a couple of reasons seemingly lost in all of these discussions.

The first is that, like it or not your data consumption will go up. It is an unavoidable part of playing the technology game. Without changing a single app or habit, each time you purchase a newer device your usage will go up.

Example: 4 years ago my mother took a (poor) video of her granddaughter and sent it to me so I could see my niece. If she were to take the same video now (read two contracts and subsidized phones later) that video is taken in 1080p high definition and will use a considerable amount more data.

Almost everything on your phone will do the same thing, every time you upgrade.

The second part of this is our apps and what they are (and will be) capable of in real time. How apps gather and transmit data and turn it into usable real-time information is awesome, but will ultimately be held up not by hardware restrictions but by limited data plans. My wife (a runner) uses an app to track data about her tracks, times, etc. and for some reason this particular app is an absolute data hog.

These two reasons are important considerations in any decision to switch from an unlimited plan on the argument that "you don't use anywhere near 2G of data." This usage could change overnight if you start using a particular app, and will certainly change every time you upgrade your phone.

My problem is I can't save money with the new share plans. I think I can shoehorn my wife and I under 2GB provided she doesn't get into streaming Pandora like I do, but even that costs more. And so for breathing room, I'd have to jump to 4GB which is even more expensive. I'm in a bind, now, because I need to get her a new phone.

I just upgraded my wife's phone to the i5 and dropped her unlimited data. She was barely using .2 GB a month. They wanted me to switch to a share everything plan which would cost $10 more and I'd get less data.
My current plan is 700 minutes, unlimited text, 4 GB data for me, 2 GB data for her, and I pay $180 a month.
So in order to get a 5 GB share everything plan, I'd have to pay $10 more?

How much data does Pandora use up?
I use close to 1 GB a month for Pandora. This is for an 40-60 min a day (5 days a week) on my commute to and from work (so no wifi). I do have it set to the higher data rate option. Setting it to the low value may shave off some usage.

I can't imagine using it all day at work as some people do since I have no wifi access. I'd blow out my limit in no time. :p
