No Option To Update LG G4 Found

Hi All
I have an odd problem.
I bought what I am told is a brand new LG G4 from an large ebay seller as my cousin had the same model and raved about it.

His was an international version and mine is as well.
It was from a seller in Hong Kong.

When I received it I noticed it had Android 5.1 on it and there was no option in the menus for "Check Now For Update"
My cousin could find that option easily on his but no luck for me, I have followed guides and looked through the menu a million times but I only have the option to update the apps not the Android version.

Has anyone encountered this and know how to fix it?
I checked with LG who confirmed my phone is genuine based off IMEI and I dont believe it is a refurbed model although this is hard to confirm 100%
It also appears not to have been rooted.

Here are phone details:
Android version is 5.1
Kernel is 3.10.49
Build Number is LMY47D
Software Version is H81510b
Production date is 1st July 2015
It says provider is: SFR which I believe is a Frence Telco

Thanks in advance.

You should have both menu items like this.

If not, request an exchange and tell the seller that you want the version that is upgradable to Marshmallow.

BTW I don't understand how a France based SFR phone endded up in Hongkong [emoji28]

Thanks for that.
When I click update center it takes me straight to a screen for updating the apps, no mention of the software at all.

I contacted the seller and he said he would send a replacement but only after I sent mine back.
I said that would leave me without a phone for weeks.
He then replied he would cover costs of getting it sorted out at a phone repair store.
I have contacted one who said they will have a look at it, I am not overly optimistic of it being fully sorted out.
I think it can be upgraded manually to Marshmellow without much trouble but I of course don't want to have to do it manually every time an update comes out.

Yeah it sure is odd, provider says SFR, looking that up and it appears to be a French telco.
I screwed up buying from this ebay store I think.
98.7% positive so I thought I would be ok, reading the negative comments after the fake has people accusing seller of selling refurb and fake phones as brand new.
So not exactly the most trust worthy store, I have learnt my lesson.

Maybe you should just return the phone and buy another one, the G4 is an excellent phone if you get the right one. I got a HTC 10 Evo last week but I found that it's inferior to my G4 when it comes to screen quality and battery life.

The problem is I got it from Ebay, not sure I would get my money back without a lot of hassle.

If you have access to a computer or laptop, you can upgrade your phone to Marshmallow manually.

I believe that there won't be any new Android version for the G4 after Marshmallow, so if you can do it, it's a one-time update, you don't need to worry about the future updates.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I figured out what is going on.
A dodgy ebay seller who sold me a brand new phone which has actually been tampered with.
The box and phone itself has a serial starting with 603 whereas numerous apps I have run to get info on the phone have reported a serial starting with 507.
Seems like he put the guts of an older phone into the casing of a newer device and passed it off as new.
I have put in a Paypal complaint and requested my money back.

There are some online stores in Australia that sell it, I think I will go through them as I think they are more reliable.
I really like the phone so I think I will buy another.

Maybe you got a refurbished device, there are plenty of sellers who sell genuine G4, better spend your hard earned money on a good one.

This is sadly common with LG devices. They use the motherboard from a different variant and apply firmware that can't be updated in your region. There's a lot of G2 and G3's in the same situation. I'd warn against buying an LG from any online source that's not super highly regarded. These refurbs are sold on eBay, Amazon and elsewhere.

Well I got my replacement phone from another Ebay Seller, QD_AU which has a very good reputation.
I received it on Wednesday and it had a seal on it saying dont accept if broken, much nicer headphones and a different sized box so it looked to be clearly new as promised. I updated the software easily on it.
Unfortunately, about 25 hours after I got it, the phone kept powering off and mostly wouldnt turn on again until i pulled the battery out for a while. That got it running a few times but it then pretty quickly failed again.
Seems like my bad luck continues.
I will send that phone back to the seller in Sydney for a replacement, meanwhile my original is still on its way to China for a refund. This has turned out to be quite a headache.
One more roll of the dice with the G4, anymore trouble and I am going to a store for a different model.
