Help no ota update! wtf!!

so jus like the title says no ota update. my phone is bone stock; I do run adw ex. talked to samsung and verizon both told me it could take several days to get to my phone, true? what can I do?
 
I'm kinda scared to try, maybe I will when I get home.
so the update could take a few days ota, huh?

ehh, I've never done it but it doesn't sound that bad. DL the file, put it on your SD card, boot into update mode (or whatever it's called) and run the file!
 
where on the sd card? i hook up the usb to my phone. then i choose mount it. then it shows up on my comp. as removable storage g, in there is see a whole bunch of folders, none say sd, i click on a folder named .thinkfree inside there is a folder named sd card. is this the folder you speak of?

sorry if this is a stupid question, i dont want to mess anything up, this is why i didnt root;)
 
well, like I said, I've never done it but from what I can recall just reading around, you want to put it on the root of your SD card. So I believe you could just click on your G: drive (or whatever it shows up as) and put it directly on the root (the first 'level')
 
ohhh! the 1st level huh.......

how do i put it on there?
drag the file and drop it on top?
or is there another way?

Just copy the update.zip to the root directory of your SD card... not in any folders.


Before you try to update, go into settings/about phone and what basband version does it say, and what build number does it say??
 
so i copied the file to the card went into recovery mode selected the update file and now i have the exclamation mark and the android dude what up??
 
i rebooted my phone and its back to normal, stock 2.1

so i downloaded the file onto my comp. the folder was named update so i renamed it update .zip. then i copied it and pasted it into the root folder of the sd card. went into recovery mode scrolled down to the update.zip file and selected it, the home key is select right? then i go an error mess. saying no such file..... what did i do wrong?

i erased the update file from the sd card i want to try again but wana make sure i have the steps correct

Needs to be called update.zip do not change the name. Just download it to your comp and copy it to your SD card.... do not rename it.

You just cant see .zip extension because of your folder settings in windows.
 
so i switched computers at my house cause my laptop was opening the update file through winrar. went onto the desktop and tried; nothing, error mess. again. so i redid it, but this time i did not rename the folder, and voila its installing as we speak!! holla!!
