No Quad For 5 US Carriers

Its 25% faster than its predecessor and may be faster than 'most', but thats still most. What's bad is they market a product in other parts of the world, and when it comes time to release in the US, they make a huge change like this when we've all been drooling over the original specs. They're taking a big marketing gamble in my opinion.
 
did you read the article you posted? lol. I can't wait for my crappy dual core S4 with 2 gig of ram... oh and that vast hideous pentile display... and fisher price materials/construction! :) joking aside, I think the US carriers are getting a very nice device and it appears much less changed than previously reworked LTE variants.

I can't remember, and I may very well be wrong, but didn't Samsung make this very clear from the get-go (little over a month ago)?

Not trying to flame or bash you or anything (you have a very legitimate concern), but it was my understanding that this had been well established in numerous threads here already. Or at least it was by far the front running opinion.

To address your comments though, I've come to the conclusion that it is not a negative at all. In fact, I've read some strong and convincing arguments on this forum as to why dual core is going to be more than sufficient for all our SGS3 needs.

Only 25% faster than what? s3 processor or GS2?:confused:
S4 is about twice faster than S3 at the same clock. that's more like 100%. Maybe not twice faster than GS2 with exynos, but way more than 25%.

I for one am glad that they went with S4 processor/radio on verizon, sprint versions instead of trying their own LTE chip again like Charge, LTE nexus. Sammy still needs to work out their LTE chip to run smoothly on CDMA network. Qualcomm 3G/4G radio chip is pretty much proven and reliable for CDMA/LTE. I'd rather go with reliable radio and slightly less performing processor than quad Exynos.

Yeah, I'm hopeful the SGS3 will be better than the Nexus. To be fair, Google dictated Samsung had to use the OMAP 4460, so they were kind of stuck reusing the Charge radio setup. I forgot about that.
 
The S4 is IMO a better option for portable devices like phones due to the 28nm chipset. I am happy with the S4 and prefer it, since fast and battery efficient.

Newer Arm tech as well. Win.

jinwons... 25% increase is what I was able to find for benchmarks. Where are you reading that its a 50% increase?
 
We are getting the same in Canada and I'm ok with dual core. An article I read said if you wanted to have LTE put into the quad cores it would have to be a bulky plug-ins as it can't be integrated. Because of the lack of integration, battery life would probably be horrible too. Sorry but I dont want that! Looking forward to getting my S3!!

Unless you want to be on Edge, then live with it. That's why the unlocked GSM International version only works on At&t's HSPA network. The best you'll get on T-Mobile is Edge. S4 allows LTE and T-Mobiles HSPA+. They have their reasons. I'm pretty sure it will not be a difference in real life use.

oh, I didn't know HSPA+ 42 required a special chip, like LTE does.

You still didn't clarify 25% increase over what?

Take a look at review analysis of Qualcomm S4 krait on anandtech. It blows away anything from last year handily. Only Tegra3 runs neck and neck with it on graphics but S4 wins on rest of benches mostly.

Of course, new quad Exynos will outperform it a bit. But that's good only for GSM/HSPA+ folks now. Sammy still needs more time in developing LTE solution for Exynos. I'm happy with S4 processor/radio, 2Gb RAM setup for verizon.
 
I'm coming from an S1 with 512MB of RAM so I'll gladly take the S4 with 2GB of RAM :)
 
I trialed the One X. You will be very happy with your S4.

Does anyone know if the size of the LTE versions are the same is the international versions, specifically thickness?

Power efficiency of processor part will be similar between two. Quad Exynos has some advanced architecture for efficient processing. But S4 will have edge for efficiency with radios as it's all integrated as SoC in one chip.

Interestingly Sammy developed their own LTE chip for GS3 with new Exynos for their home market. But it runs on GSM/HSPA+ network with different LTE frequency. I think it's good move for them to go with proven qualcomm S4 radio for GS3 on CDMA/LTE carriers in US.

I wouldn't say it needs a "special" chip, but S4 alone will keep T-Mobile customers off Edge. The HSPA+ 42 is a plus. If Samsung had the quad Exynos compatible with US LTE, then everything would of been perfect. I'm pretty sure the S4 will do just fine and with the additional gig of RAM. People hear dual and think less. They have to know the specs and real life use of it. Samsung wouldn't of used S4 if they didn't trust it. I'm personally going to get the international version.
 
32nm is bigger than 28nm, but I do not know the power draw. Initial reports are the new S4 is current top for battery life. The quad has killer benchmarks, but apparently comes at a battery and heat price. Tegra 3 rocks and the S4 apparently beats it, so I would be happy with similar performance and looong battery life.

Difference between 32nm and 28nm process isnt that big. (10%)
Also 32nm hkmg beats 28nm polysion on power efficiency. Hkmg reduces current leak so it runs at much lower power.

jinwons... I believe I did in my original post "...25% faster than its predecessor".

Even though Anandtech states that "more likely to benefit from 2 faster cores than 4 slower". However, they also say that there are "advantages to more than two cores". It was also stated that its not easy coming up with current apps that scale well to four ARM cores, but that doesn't mean its not impossible and therefore could be taken advantage of. So with them saying what they are, I would still vote on 4 cores.

Good luck getting a radio if you're with ATT. ATT had Samsung remove the radio on prior models.
