Hold middle button. Bottom. First icon. Click it. Takes you to ram manager where you can end one or all.

thanks yea i figured that out by watching a tips n tricks video on youtube but is there a way to set the task manager icon to the home screen?

No there isn't. Best you can do is download a Task Manager App and put the shortcut on your home screen or on your notification bar.

I can see a home screen with a task manager icon. So how do you do it?

Try long-pressing on the screen that you want the TASK MANAGER shortcut on.

You should get a pop-up menu which shows a selection called "shortcuts".
Select this & scroll down until you find the desired shortcut.

Task Manager activity shortcut is not visible by default on the Note 2...at least not for the T-Mo (USA) version.

Try (after the long press) SHORTCUT>ACTIVITIES>& then scroll down until you see TASK MANAGER.

If you're still unable to do this, there's an app called 'ANY CUT' in the GOOGLE PLAY STORE, might be worth a shot.

EDIT:

Apparently, the application ANY CUT doesn't play nice w/ANDROID 4.1+ ATM.

I had to side-load it & it's not working as it did on ICS.

Keep us posted on your results,

Good lookin' out, but I already posted how to create the shortcut. I believe the OP, and others, may be having issue with the fact that creating the shortcut is not possible via the stock OS. Long pressing the homescreen does not allow shortcut creation to an activity, without the presence of a 3rd party app/launcher.

Was just gonna suggest the same (Using HOLO LAUNCHER HD).

No problem, it's all good. :D

Awe inspiring. I use Nova Launcher and that has done it

No and it's really not needed. "Android OS" is really the RAM manager and with 2GB you're apt to never run out or really run low.

If an app is misbehaving get Advanced Task Killer Free, and don't let it run all the time.

I have the web browser, (2) tabs open, and Tapatalk as the only "running apps":

Using a 3rd party task killer/mgmt. app, and its potential ill affects, have been well discussed.

You should be able to go to your apps screen and see all running services. Remember there's a UI running that Touchwiz and a bunch of other Samsung services such as the S pen etc.

I know. My post was in response to your comment regarding never running low on memory. I disagree, given the RAM usage per my pic. Clearing the memory, ~500MB are in use at any given time
