Help No Speed Dials In ICS?...Native Browser Doesn't Resize Pages?

Is there any way to set the 1-9 number keys to speed dial numbers from your contacts? Jeez, this was around in the days of the (original) Motorola Razr (and every phone thereafter). You can't possibly be serious that ICS/GNex doesn't allow for this!?

And the browser doesn't resize pages to fit onto the screen when you zoom in to make the print larger? My Incredible did this with Android 2.1 and 2.1.

Am I missing something?

To get the browser to wrap text you just have to double tap after you zoom. I can't help with the speed dial thing.

Just fill in the star at the top of the contact to designate it a "favorite." You will see a very short list of only the favorites, pushed to the top of the contacts tab (the little person symbol to the right when you're in the phone app). It's much better than a speed dial. It makes available all options, such as calling, texting, emailing etc.

To get the browser to wrap text you just have to double tap after you zoom. I can't help with the speed dial thing.

All double tapping after I zoom seems to do is resize the page to its original size (i.e. too small to be seen).

I don't think anyone has speed dial! I love that feature on my flip phone. Apple iOS does not have it. Android neither. All these smartphones have is the "Favorites" list, which is not nearly as useful as speed dial!

Friends, I agree...
I find using favorites more cumbersome than the good old fashioned 1-99 speed dials. I had it on almost all previous phones and miss it. Anyone tried RocketDial Pro (Smart Dialer)? It has speed dials but overtly complicated to use. It also does not replace the native dialer. I guess I need to root to get that?

Any other program for speed dials that integrates into the native dialer.

Have you tried Dialer One? Not only does it allow you dial a "name" it also had a 99 number speed dial function.

I'm out of the country atm and I haven't tried the speed dial yet to see if it still works under ICS, but the name dialing was working when I tried it before I left.

Well why not simply make direct dial shortcuts for the people you call the most? That way you can call them with one press instead of two. See that's even better than the old speed dial way of doing things.

Don't pinch to zoom websites. It's pointless. Double tap to zoom and the text will wrap perfectly.

htc sense has speed dials and t9-style name searching. AND had the most recently used callers at the top of the dialing screen. better in 3 ways than the ics dialer.

also htc sense stock browser reflows the text after pinch-to-zoom.

i am surprised how advanced htc sense from spring 2009 is compared to ice cream sandwich in winter 2011.

Quoting this because as smart as having a single shortcut on your home screen this on the home screen or dock is the next evolution of smart.

Now I don't need this as I'm antisocial so going through my contacts is one last way for me decide to not be bothered.
