Help No text notifications

I did the new upgrade to Gingerbread and am not receiving any text notifications. I used find under settings a separate setting for text and email notifications. Now I only have notiifcations and it doesnt notify me of anything. The phone rings when I receive a call and that is it. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have searched every setting that I can and there is no text message notification..only a general notification under settings and this only rings when I receive an email...nothing for text messages.

What texting app are you using? Or are you using the stock text app?

When you say you have searched all the settings, are you talking about the phone's/Android's general settings, or your text app's settings?

Have you opened up the texting app, and then gone into the settings? I use Handcent for texting and it has plenty of notification settings, allowing for audio, tactile, LED, etc.. notifications.

It's working fine for me. I use different sounds for each notification: SMS, Gmail, work Exchange email, GroupMe, Calender reminders...

I didn't do the OTA update though. I wiped my phone and updated manually and set everything back up again. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I am also having this problem. I am not savvy at phone tech so I just have the text program that came with the phone. I was unaware that there could be a texting app. I have set and reset and shut down and reset and still get no text audio. I get a vibrate for texts. Email notification is audible.

I have always been curious as to if I can download a different ringer for texts. is that what a text app would do for me. is a text app better than what is on the phone or just a 3rd party only good if you pay for app?

+1 on the NO text notification tone. Very annoying, and way more important to me then almost any of the Gingerbread update features.

Ok, this is what worked for me. Like somebody mentioned before....go into the text settings menu. In other words, select text as usual and then hit the menu key from there and select your desired tone.

going to the app settings for texting or my gaming apps or anything does not fix this. going to the phone settings for notification doesnt fix that It always uses vibrate or nothing and even that is not consistent....sign* now what? Factory reset removing the sd card first?

i found go sms pro for free in the android market and that has been an ok replacement. it has a couple of quirks but at least i have a ringer for text notification. I can also select a custom ringer not just what the system has for you to select. it works just like regular messenger select the go sms pro app instead of messaging and text away. it also has different themes you can select like holiday themes and what not. like i said at least I can hear the notification.
