No true silent mode?

I'm on serendipity but when I completely press the volume button so that i see the vibrate button I automatically assume that it is in silent mode. However when I launch some games such as dillo hills I still hear the game sound. Am I doing some huge noob mistake? Gonne be a huge problem when class starts on Monday ;)

Maybe I am crazy, but prior to the 2.2 update, the volume button would go to silent then vibrate then silent with no vibrate. Now just lowers volume and goes to vibrate. You have to go to setting to turn vibrate off. Kind of annoying.

You can also use Widget Locker. When your lockscreen is up you can use the the volume widget to silence the phone. I think it sucks that you have to do this, I believe the silent feature should have been left alone on the 2.2 upgrade.

When your on the home screen and press the vol up/down buttons all it is changing is the Ringer volume. What you should do instead is pull down the notification bar and use the silent button at the top. One other way to quickly mute all sounds is to hold the power button till the menu shows up and put it into silent mode that way.

If your looking for a "true" silent mode you'll needed widgets or to go into settings>sound>vibrate - then pick "never" or "only when not in silent mode"

The loss of a linked system and media volume is a common issue in many custom/hacked 2.2 ROMs. If this is important to you, I'd suggest looking at one of the other ROMs out there which have implemented a fix for this.

This is my biggest pet peav with 2.2. The volume buttons used to go from loud to soft to vibrate to silent which was nice. Now it goes from sound to vibrate OR sound to silent, sucks. I frequently kept it in my pocket with just the vibrate on, but now, it would take going into settings and switching it back and forth. Dumb, silent I guess will have to do.
