Noise Suppression?

Hi all,

I'm a proud new owner of this giant phone! (yeah it still feels big but i'm loving it). I have a question about call quality. About 50% of the time I can hear my own voice echoing on the line when making a voice call. I use a bluetooth headset and I haven't noticed if the same thing happens without the headset.

I realize this is probably just a signal issue but I wondered if there might be any other reasons for it. In the settings menu I came across "Noise Suppression" for calls. By default this is turned off. Do most of you turn this on or off? And what kind of difference does it seem to make for you?

Thanks for any feedback.

Welcome to Android Forums!
I do not use noise suppression but I also have never had any problems with echoing during a call.

It's under settings/call/additional settings/noise suppression but it's most probably for things like wind while driving.

Yes, the noise suppression seems to be more for the benefit of the person you are talking to. In other words, it will supposedly cut down on background noise by utilizing the second mic (located at the top of the phone) and canceling noise at certain frequencies. I have found that you can turn this feature on or off while in a call as well by hitting the settings button.

I'm not sure how effective it is at suppressing background sound at this point. Apparently this feature is only accessible if you use the handset instead of a bluetooth headset. I usually use a bluetooth headset right now.

As far as the voice echoing, I have been paying much more attention to my signal strength. The only times I have had echoing on the call are at my office, where I get dbm -100s and higher. However, every time that I have the typical -70s to -80s range dbm I am having crystal clear conversations. In other words, it has much more to do with signal than any kind of software issue.
