Help .nomedia

How can I get rid of my album art in my gallery yet still have my music show up in my music ? I added the file .nomedia to my music folder and it took out my album art from the gallery but also took out my music (obviously)

I take it you can't just delete the pictures in Gallery? Does that erase the music too?
I guess that would be to easy to work.

Can you use Astro and manually move the copy from Gallery (DCIM, I guess) to whatever folder you make/want?
I know it can be done, because I've done it. But I lost stuff in the process, as I had no idea what I was doing. I was actually in a place I had no business being in, but wanted to learn.
I successfully got most of my music with art from mnt/sdcard>musicdownload, and about 6 other places, to mnt/sdcard>ex_sdcard>musicdownload and somehow (don't know how) lost some album covers from Gallery (that I actually didn't want to lose from there. I originally put some there on purpose. Using screenshots no less).
What I was doing (on a phone. Don't have a computer) was trying to move all my music, pictures, and video from internal to external, as I always thought that's where it was supposed to go in the first place.
I don't get the whole USB storage thing, and I don't understand partitioning sd cards.
I don't know if I'll ever try that again or not.
Yeah. I will. I did move 300 songs and 500mb of pictures to my card, so I consider it a success.
Even though I had to replace 20 songs I lost.
And I lost all my video. Can't find it anywhere. Luckily it was all replaceable.

no can do our phone in the beginning does a media scan of our whole internal and external memory so any image, sound file is added in its proper category files for example gallery will show every image file that exist within your phone's reach same for sound files. theres no way around it.

Power amp, neutron, and probably other players allow you to select which folders are scanned so you don't get sounds from games, navigator, alerts, etc in your music library. But I guess we're not talking about those.

This is such a basic requirement that I can't believe there's no solution. And -- it has nothing to do with the music player, the issue is to keep the album art from overwhelming the Android Gallery app.

What we need is an analogue to the .nomedia construct like ".noimages" that will tell the OS to catalog everything except images. This isn't rocket science...

I went to my gallery, opened a folder that had album art, deleted the photos. That, in turn, deleted the folder. Just went to TuneWiki (music app I use). All album art is there....

It's not normal for album art to be in Gallery. I have moved entire libraries of music from player to player, cover art too, without one single album cover ending up in my gallery.
Yes, the system does a media scan on every start up. But that doesn't mean every image goes to gallery no more than every audio bit goes to music library.
The only time I started having problems was when I started moving files and folders around, from internal to external, without partitioning the card (whatever that means) or really following any rules.

So, in the end, I don't know why your art is in your gallery. But I know it's not supposed to.
I think.:sly::what:

You can add the pictures, album art I assume, directly to your mp3 files. This can be done on a computer, or on your phone. I don't recall how to do it on the computer, but Google can help with that, but on your phone, look for an app called iTag inn the play store. This let's you change things such as who the artist is, what the name of the song is, and add/remove/change album art
With the art directly on the mp3, no need to keep the pictures on your sd card

that would work but would take too much effort. i have 175gb of music on my computer that i frequently swap out on my phones 16gb card...

Using Linux I really don't have the option of iTunes (not that IM complaining) and were still not getting to the root of the problem and fixing it.

On the phone, you can use app Audio Tagged or iTag or Album Art Grabber....these all fix the cover art, but the OP wants to get the art out of the gallery, not fix/replace it...

As I said, I removed photos from gallery. Did not effect cover art in any of my music players. Try it. Start with one photo. Delete it, then open music player. Se if art is correct there. Then reopen gallery and see if it was added back...

In my case, it wasn't...
