non-market apps

Thanks mate!

You know when you install the apps, there's always a bit that says this application is allowed to access certain parts of your phone, how do i restrict that?

I just used one called Installer to install Google Earth (not sure why this still isn't in the market). But looking at Astro it does look a bit more refined, think I'll go check it out myself.

You can't - that list appears so that you know what the app needs access to and can make a decision on whether to install it or not.

Actually, you don't really need Astro to install APKs. If you are browsing a site using the default browser supplied, you can download any files, including APKs is there is a link supplied. Once downloaded, you can just swipe down from the notification bar. There should be a list of downloaded files and you just tap on the APK you have downloaded and it will automatically install!

Of course, Astro does lots of other things as well, but you don't strictly need it to install non-market APKs.
