Root Noob question about 3.30.651.3 weather I will be able to Root after

Evo4sickness

Android Enthusiast
I have been getting asked to download 3.30.651.3 since last week to an firmware update which I thought was ginger bread right but I see now its not. The thing is since I have new Evo I have 3.30.651.2 which suposedly already has the fix for the camera for qik. My phone has asked me 4 times to do the update. And again will I be able to root.
Which I have used qik its never rebooted me but it was insaley slow because of qiks overflorwed servers. Now the only reason I want to udate to 3.30.651.3 is because you need it for Clear Sea which is amazing very fast video confrencing app.

But I hear people are having a hard time rooting it so thats my question any one know the answer.

If you want root access then you better go ahead and root first and then go grab a 3.30.653 rom from XDA...

The procedure to root the newer version isn't ready for prime time just yet. If you upgrade now you might get the newer version that probably can't be rooted at all yet.

If you already have 3.30.651.2, the update to 3.30.651.3 was a minor update to fix some camera issues. Chances are, you already have the 2.02 hboot, but maybe not. Boot into hboot by turning the phone off, then pressing and holding the volume down button while you turn the phone back on. If you have hboot 2.02, you may as well just accept the OTA; rooting will be no different between your current sw version and the new one. If you have an older hboot, definitely go ahead and root first, then flash a rom with the update (don't accept the OTA). Unrevoked is working on a new version, though, to root the 2.02 hboot, so you're not in a bad position either way, though. You just might need to wait a little longer for the easy method. There is a slightly harder method already available on xda.

Whatever you do, though, do not accept the 3.70 OTA. There is no word yet on whether or not unrevoked is working on an update to root it.

OK thanks allot so than dont upgrade to the newest OTA cuz right now the only reason I wanted to was because there is an app called Ocean Video talk and Video confrencing that is fillining in for what Skype has yet to fill in and you supposedly need .3 to run it without problems.

The unrevoked team is testing the new version now, and will be releasing an update very soon. It should root all hboot versions available now. Personally, I would update to .3 only, and not accept the OTA to 3.70 (if you have that option) just to not bother with the newest hboot. Either way, you'll be able to root.

Thanks allot for the info so just download the .3 update. So than where is the 3.70 OTA cuz have not been asked to download that once not that I would from you said. Anothet question why is my keyboard or the insertion of the letters so lagged some times does it have to do with the loading of the page

1) Last I heard, the current unrevoked beta was having issues rooting some phones with the 2.10 hboot. Like I said, you're fine accepting the OTA if it's just the 3.30 fix. If you're prompted after that to install 3.70, I would wait.

2) When does it do that? Just when loading pages or most of the time? Naturally, if you're loading webpages (especially with flash), anything, including typing, will be a little slow.

Ok and what hboot fo I HAVE if I have an Evo version 3 firmware. It doesnt it when the page is fully loaded and it takes a while for it to stop lagging

Turn the phone off, then press and hold the volume down button while turning the phone back on. That will take you to hboot, where you will see the version number at the top. If you have hboot 0.97, stop, don't accept any OTA updates, and root with unrevoked now if you want root. If you have 2.02, just accept the 3.30 OTA (since it's minor for you, and won't change hboot). From there, though, I don't recommend accepting the 3.70 OTA.

Couple of questions
I chekced it now I have 2.02 so Iam going to accept the 3.30.651.3

In the sytem updates I pressed the Update profile which it said it did what does that do.

And also there is a bluetooth turning off bug in 2.2 when bt is turning off it reboots the system it has done it more than ever 5 times today instead 1 ever couple of days. Do you think it will fix this bug or will I have to wait for the next higher level than 2.2 which Iam guessing will be Gingerbread right.

It doesn't matter much now since unrevoked has now been updated to root all available hboot versions. I still wouldn't update beyond 3.30, personally, but it's up to you. There is one more OTA beyond what you have. It will update to 3.70 (hboot 2.10). It's still 2.2.

As to your bt issue, that's definitely not normal. I haven't heard anything specific, so I may have to go search for that one.

Update profile just updates your 3g internet profile. Only needed if you are having internet problems. If you want the ota update, you need to click HTC software update.

Ok thanks but back to the profile question what does it do when you udate it. Let me know what you find. Supposedly its has been happening and Vlingos app even says that its a bug in 2.02 and to shut off bt through there app settings which you cant.

Well if it only happens with this site, it's obviously a design problem with this site only.
