Root Noob question on rooting

Hawkcode

Lurker
I am a new Desire user, CELlular finally got a decent phone. Now I'm a programmer and of course I want to root my phone.
Problem is that all the guide are fore earlier boot loaders, I have version .98.

Any body got a clue?

Droid Den - Phone Guide: How To Root The HTC Desire HBOOT 0.83 - Droid Den

That's if you have the 0.83 (or maybe 0.80) HBOOT, since you're still on 2.1 then guides like that should work. Find out your HBOOT by turning the phone off then holding the back button "<--" while turning the phone on with the power button, you should see the HBOOT version listed. There's 0.75, 0.80, 0.83 and 0.92, as far as I know 0.92 is the biggest pain to root with and requires downgrading.

Are you on US Cellular? Is that what "CELlular finally got a decent phone" means? If so you have a CDMA version of the phone. As far as I know only unrevoked 3.2 will root the CDMA version and that may or may not be ready for download. If you have a GSM phone your fine but not much has been done with the CDMA. Only one brand new rom for it as far as I know, and GSM ROMs could brick your phone.

So have any US Ceullar people successfully rooted yet?

Does anyone know where to find the RUU for US Cellular? This way if we mess something up or need to return the phone for any reason we can flash back to OEM?

No downgrade methods are suitable for the CDMA phone. Unrevoked3 cannot currently root froyo, but the new version about to be released can do it, and will therefore work.

I am also waiting on Unrevoked 3.21 to root my US Cellular Desire. Can't wait to load 2.2 but also do not want to brick my new phone.
