Help Noob question on Skype for DInc

Have had my Inc for a couple weeks now. I have a cruise coming up in a couple months and my gf will have a 5 year old at home she will want to be able to talk to if possible. He will be with her parents and her dad has a Droid. I am trying to download Skype (did download Fring as well), but when trying to go do the download link the app sent to my phone it says it is unavailable for my handset. Is that true?

If so, can i just download the program onto my laptop to get a skype acct setup with the contacts and then use fring on my handset? Am i missing something? I appreciate any help/tips you can give.

You don't need to download skype, just go to the join link at the top of the website.

Then just login to skype within Fring and add the contacts of your choice (or have your parents/gf's parents Skype you from their account). Fring works great! It sucks not to have a front camera but I use it to show people how to do stuff (ie, something on a computer, see a concert i'm at, etc)
 
Skype only works on US Verizon network. You can make all calls from US Verizon network, but once you travel outside that network you cannot make or receive a call on SKYPE.

The skype app doesn't work you are correct sir, but Fring works fine anywhere using any connection, using skype logins
