Root Noob question whether to root or not

Good deal....I'll order the regular sim.

I am a bit confused though. When I flashed the att phone with superuser does that unlock it? Should I still go with the att version or the unlocked GSM version.?

  • Unlocked GSM Phone (Phone must operate in 850 and 1900 MHz bands)
  • AT&T Compatible Phone (Since the unlock is it still an att phone)
These are my options. I feel like I have an At&t phone that is unlocked so both opt's look like they meet my criteria. Sorry for the over cautious questions...just want to get the right one to save the hassle.

I'm going to owe you a case of beer after all this. Ice cold, or your favorite beverage.

THANKS YET AGAIN!!!

Tom (the pain in the a$$)

Flashing the superuser doesent unlock it you have to get the unlock code to do that. And even though it is unlocked it is still an att phone and will take an att sim as the radio frequincies will still be the same.
No need for anything im here and glad to help how i can

Hello!
I'm in the exact boat as you guys. I have S2 Skyrocket and just activated on ST. 2 issues I have. I had/have the original Evo4g w/Sprint. Great smartphone! Terrible 3g network! I took the Evo's email for granted until I got the s2. I HATE the email on the s2!!!! Any way I can get the Evo's email on the Skyrocket or is it an HTC thing?
Also, I want/ need to tether on the skyrocket. Not for streaming frivolously or anything like that. Just to use my iPad when traveling and such. ST won't let you use Foxfi app on their network. Will I be able to tether after I root phone? Or will ST that as well? Evo seems to be interchangeable than the s2. S2 much quicker!
Any help would be much appreciated.:)

If it is available on the market yes. You might also find the apk from someone. And i wouldent be sure if it is an htc thing really because i havent had an htc. Mt cousin has the HOX and i will check it out further and get back to you. You can tether with foxfi i do and they havent said nothing. As long as you dont use up a huge amount of data you will be ok.

No, I can't use Foxfi. I loaded the app from the app store and when i go to use it, it's sez something to the effect of "cannot be used on this network."

I'm back.... :) The straight talk sim cards were supposed to come out in walmarts aug 11th but didn't. I'm going to order one online. It asks if it is a Micro sim or just sim. From google I'm pretty sure it's a regular size sim. However, it also asks if the phone is unlocked. I rooted it with the above method but I'm not sure if that means it's unlocked. It has two options to order a card for an unlocked gsm that operates in 850 and 1900 mhz or order one for an att compatible phone. I'm not sure which one I need? Thanks for any advice.

I tried another sim card in it that works and it said not recognized on network. Guess I'm still locked to AT&t. I would like to unlock it? Any ideas on a good way to do it? The options to order the sim card are here

Cell phones sure have changed. Thanks for any suggestions or ideas.

Wow, how embarrassing, I already asked my last question and got all the answers I needed. I think my head is spinning from messing with this phone too much. It's addictive. Sorry for the repost. I'm starting to feel old.
