Help Noob Question

I have what I would think is a simple question but who knows...

Anyways, I am trying to install something that is on my sd card directly to the device and not installed onto the sd card. How can I ensure that it is being installed in that way?

Sorry for the noob question but any and all advice is welcome!

I get that you're trying to install something, but would you care to clarify that? Am I correct in understanding you when I say that you have a particular file on your SD card that you'd like to both install and run on your phone? For whatever it's worth to you, that's really the only way to get it to run. Even if you move it "back" over to your card and run it from there, it won't be residing on the card completely as the OS only moves a portion of it over. Does that help?

I'm assuming by install something you want to install an app that's on your SD card. When you install any app other than a system app it will be installed and placed in the /data/app portion on the phone. Some apps have a move2SD feature which will place the app back on to the SD card.

Yes, that did help. I am just reading up on rooting and making sure I understand everything before I do anything. I just didn't know if there was anything special that needed to be done to make sure a particular item installed on to the device itself instead of being installed and run from the sd card.
