Help Noob Questions

So I finally picked up my Thunderbolt today! And I have a few questions. Sorry if they are dumb questions.

1. Is there a way where I can stay logged in to my google account but I won't receive gmail emails? And if not, maybe I can choose the ones that I want/do not want to receive?

2. How do I know which apps are running and how do I close them? Are there any that NEED to stay running?

3. Is there a way to delete some of the apps that came preloaded on the phone (City ID, Blockbuster, etc)?

4. Can I use myxer tones for ringtones or is there a certain way to do custom ringtones on android software?

Don't worry about silly questions.

1. Staying signed in to gmail is an automatic thing, i've never known how to selectively have my phone log off during different times by myself. as for receiving emails, it's your email, there's not much you can do to prevent others from sending emails to you unless you put a few related emails into the spam folder or block them. nose around in the settings to see if this works.

2. to find out which apps are running do the following: click the capacitive menu button, then click settings, scroll down to applications and select it, then chose manage applications, from here click on 'running' and go from there. as for what needs to stay running you shouldn't be worried about much, just dont kill all of the tasks.

3. The only way to get rid of all of those stupid apps or 'bloatware' is to root your phone. if that isn't an option then you're outta luck kiddo.

4. The best way for me to create custom ringtones was to download 'Ringdroid' from the market and clip a part from my favorite song. there are plenty of other apps out there too but ringdroid has sufficed for me.

hope this helps. Be sure to click the 'Thanks' button on the bottom right!

actually cityid is a program you can delete without rooting. just run the program then it asks you to stop trial period then it uninstalls.

Is there a way to make the alarm clock not have a ringtone and vibrate only when it goes off without have to always have your phone on vibrate?

What i do to have my phone only vibrate for alarms is first downloading an app called 'volume control' it has a picture with a bunch of volume bars on the market. install it, open it, then slide the volume slider titled ALARM all the way to the left.

Okay a few last questions:

What is the best free weather app?

I want to sign out of the facebook and twitter apps to save battery but it keeps saying I will lose all of my data. What does this mean.

The phone has all of these programs running that I want to force stop to save battery but I have never heard of them. Does anyone know which ones I can delete?

How can I delete more than one email at a time?

I find that weatherbug is a really good free weather app.

I think when it says that u will loose data means that u wont get streaming (automatic) updates. It shouldnt do anything to ur actual account or to ur app's.

also i believe that when u go to the email page that when u select trash that u can click which ones u want to delete by tapping on the particular email. I am not sure though since i dont have my phone with me :(

Hope you like your Thunderbolt! feel free to ask any questions no matter if they are noob questions. or send me a personal message by right clicking on my name. Glad we can help and don't worry about saving battery too much. I was at the airport in Detroit and i picked up a 30$ portable micro-usb charger to charge your phone on the go. i recommend following the same suit to preserve longer battery life. please, if you have any other questions just nose in the forums or ask any one of us!
