I picked up the Thunderbolt about a month ago. I love how fast it is, but the battery is pretty pathetic, and I absolutely cannot stand all of the crap software on it (especially HTC's sense). I'm new to rooting phones... I've found the guides to root the Thunderbolt, but am unsure what to do regarding ROMs. Will vanilla gingerbread work? If so, where do I find one?

Thanks for humoring me :)

There isn't a pure vanilla/AOSP ROM for the TB yet. There are a couple that are alpha/pre-alpha so they are not fully functional and there are issues with them. There are some ROMs that are based off of HTC Sense, but have been stripped to be more like vanilla android.

To remove bloatware, you have to root your phone. You can then use an app (Titanium Backup) to delete those apps, or you can delete them using command line.

Personally, I use Tesla Coil - it comes with a leankernel. I can go a full 24 - 30 hours without charging. It's also made to be closer to vanilla android.
