Root Noob to rooting I have some questions

Ok I'm new to this rooting thing so bear with me. I want to root my vibrant but I have some questions. Does the one click root work? And how does it work? Also what does the lag fix do? And do I need a computer to use it? Will rooting and applying lag fix not allow me to get froyo? Again im sorry if these questions have been asked.
 
there is soooo much info already in this section about rooting and what works to root and what a lag fix does etc. your in the right section just read read read read..... no one like the feeling of a bricked phone because they didnt know what they were doing.
