Root Noobie. Completely Lost.

I want to root my HTC Evo V 4G from Virgin Mobile. I've been searching through all the threads and I have no idea where to start.

What would be my first step to rooting my phone? If you can outline all the steps it would help a lot.

Im trying to get the CM10 Rom from Evo 3D xda forums.

start here... this guide will tell you how to unlock with htc dev... flash recovery... allow you to flash some roms (not cm10 though... keep reading)

then you want to get s-off based on this...

then finish off with flashing custom radios and hboots...

it seems like alot of work so you may do each of the three sections on diff days... but obviously they must be done in order...
and if your a little scared... do just the first part and it should let you flash some of the roms...

you have to do all three to be able to flash the gangnam style rom...
with the first part, you would be able to flash any sense based roms...
s-off allows you to flash diff hboots... you would need a diff hboot to flash non sense roms...

If you want to run aosp, aokp and miui roms you need to downgrade your hboot, in order to do this you need to be s-off. Follow the guide posted above and you shouldn't have any trouble. Seems overwhelming but the whole process can be done in under an hour.
