Root Nook can't see wifi SSID

varnco

Lurker
I have my wifi setup with WPA/WPA2, broadcasting the SSID, on wireless N modem, using mixed B/G/N mode.

I have to place the nook within 3 feet of the router before it will see the SSID.

The nook color can't "see" the SSID even though other devices (laptop, etc.) can see and connect to the wireless modem with ease.

The nook can see other SSID's within reach.. but not that one that is mine that is secured. It was actually able to see the SSID until about 3 weeks ago...

Any thoughts?

Using CM7.1.0 encore

Thanks for the feedback. I have tried different channels so they are not stepping on each other and tried g only,n,only,g/n as well. Only my nook can't see the ssid. Lipase, laptop, laptop,Droid phone see it fine.

I have Mirage 7.2 on my girlfriends for about a week and lately it's starting doing this same thing. I tried re-setting the channel at the router, then back to auto, but that didn't work. Did you find a fix for this? Thanks.

I have not found a solution. I've changed the B/G/N to just B, just G, Just N, AES security only, TPI/AES, changed channels to what other WIFI connections aren't on, spun around three times while holding a full beer in my left hand while chanting to the WIFI Gods and standing 2 feet from the router. The NC can't see the SSID, but every other device (ipad, netbook, desktop, iphone, android phone, Apple TV, Vizio TV, Roku, BluRay player) can.

It's just not meant to be.

Do you have a case on your Nook? Someone had a case that apparently had some metal in it and blocked the signal.

Make sure your date and time is correct. I use an app to do that and it's set to sync every day, only on wifi, ony when awake.

When's the last time you rebooted your router? Just pull the power, wait a minute and plug it back in.

Another trick, long press on your connection and choose "forget", then re-add it.

Have you tried booting into recovery and formatting cache (under mounts menu) and clearing Dalvik cache (under advanced menu)? When you clear caches, it's going to take a few minutes longer to boot and it will lag for a bit until the caches are rebuilt.

The fix for me was forgetting ALL networks, re-booting, then all was well again.
Also found the script Colchiro referenced about Nook Colors not being able to turn off airplane mode once it's turned on, but hadn't utilized it. Thanks all.

Recovery with clearing cache, etc. did not work.
Forgetting all and rebooting has not worked in the past.

I think Im going to just reinstall CM7 (upgrade to CM 7.2) and see if that fixes it. I wanted to wait and see if CM9 was going to be ready before upgrading, but it seems to still be an alpha.

I appreciate all the work it takes for folks to make these happen!

Rather than reinstall, you could just factory reset. (Settings... privacy I think.) You could also factory reset in recovery.
