Nook Color charger buzzin and getting hot!

Stop using the charger if it's buzzing, a friend of mine has an older XBox 360 and her power supply started buzzing and surely enough it shorted out (did a huge spark), she got a replacement for it and it's been fine since then.
 
Yeah, buzzing in a wall-wart power supply means there is arcing across the transformer windings.

STOP USING IT.

Get it replaced ASAP.

i just noticed mine is buzzing. But it is very quiet buzz. I wonder if this is a common issue.

However, it is NOT getting hot.

If it's buzzing, it's defective, and potentially a safety hazard. Buzzing only means one thing: Arcing.

I'd return your device for warranty service. If enough people do it, they might do a recall.

To circumvent this for now, I'd buy one of those 120VAC - USB wall warts.
 
My NC will charge via USB, but I am pretty sure you have to have it rooted with a custom ROM to allow this, I may be wrong, but thats another option til you find a charger.

Mine charged via usb w/out a custom rom. It just charged very, very, slowly. But it's possible.
 
I tried charging mine on my HTC EVO charger when the Nook was completely dead and it was buzzing and snapping... i immediately unplugged it and charged it with its own charger.

I had tried it before when the battery wasn't completely dead and it charged fine... my guess is it draws more juice when its not actually booted up.
 
My charger started buzzing a few weeks ago - only when not charging the NC though. I called into BN tech support a couple of weeks ago and they said they would mail me out a new charging combo - never received it. Called a few days ago and said they were sending it out again, so hopefully it is here today or Monday.

Point is if it is buzzing call BN and they will replace it.
 
I just called the 1800 number and I got no help.

They said to take it back to the store. .

Called the store and they said. " we don't have extra power cords just laying around."
They said bring everything in even nook and we will just swap everything.

I will do it tomorrow and will post how it goes.
