Nook Color vs Kindle Fire

Both are limited in their apps availability, but out of the box, the Fire is better. I got both for Xmas, and if I didn't root my Nook, I would've kept the Fire.

I guess I thought the Color was Android based as well.

Edit - From what I'm seeing, the Nook Color IS Android based. I'm trying to determine the difference between it and the Fire.

The difference is that the Nook Color is a better thought out and executed product. The Fire doesn't seem to have come to market with an actual finished OS. It is clunky and slow, hell even the slide lock is laggy.

I have a Nook Color that I installed CM7 via emmc so it is now purely a tablet. I can't be happier with it and my experience with it so far. Plus the first generation of the Nook Color can be had at a price lower than the Fire.
But hey I am biased :) I use it for both pleasure and work, it has been really great to me.

Bought two of the NC's,both refurbs, for the wife and daughter. $119 and $129 respectively. Rooted both and CM7'd both. They both love them and now I'm jealous. I want one! These things, once rooted, are fantastic cheap tablets! Think I'd be VERY hard pressed to find something similar or better at this price range. Next best bet would be something like a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 or 8.9 but those are closer to $500. They're nice but NOT cheap by any stretch....

Interested in a 10" for yourself? (You can always use poor eyesight as an excuse)

Check out the HP Touchpad from Amazon or fleeBay.... about $250, then install CM7.1 on it. Diversification is good. :D

Fixed small storage was my main reason for not going with the fire. The NC CM7 gets me expandable storage and the amazon cloud player (only reason I even concerned the fire). The UI on the NC is nice and smooth so far. Is it as good as my jailbroken iPad 2? Of course not, but it's less than a third of the price. I actually want to get another one of these myself because I like my daughter's so much.

I agree. I bought a 16gb card with cm7 on it for $30, and it was worth it to me to not have to root the nc myself.

Oh I also bought a refurb from ebay for $147..in perfect condition...no tax and no shipping.

So for less than $178 I now have another Android tablet. :)

$50 for a $12 card with a free OS on it.... a kitten dies everytime someone buys these over-priced cards. :D

I have to agree. I can't see paying 40 to 80 bucks for a twenty minute job. I also wouldn't like using something that you have to boot in and out of to use.

Actually, it takes more time to read and re-read the instructions and download the zip files than it does to root the nook.

There is an alternative to replacing the OS and that is ManualNooter. You can install this and have the best of both worlds. You keep all the B&N functions and still have a full android tablet without booting back and forth.

BTW, I do run CM7 on my android phone.
