Northern Lights 2025

The Northern lights were visible in Wichita Ks last night. Naturally, I missed the very rare occasion. There is a great chance that they will be visible tonight as well. It is due to an unusual coronal ejection of the sun. I'll be in place to grab a few pics if the lights make it this far South tonight. If you live in a Northern state, take advantage of your location and grab some pictures to share... please To see the lights have always been on my bucket list!

Northern lights may be visible in 17 states (or more) tonight

Auroras may be visible from Alaska to Illinois as an incoming coronal mass ejection could spark severe geomagnetic storm conditions overnight.

We're not on the list, though it's going to be cloudy anyway.

While I don't mind the opportunity, I'm not planning on just sitting outside, in the cold, for a maybe.

I live in Southern Kansas so I'm not in the or very close to the predicted sighting area. Pictures were taken locally last night that impressed me so I'll take a chance. It costs nothing but a bit of time for a chance to see the lights. I will give it a shot. According to local weather stations, clouds are to move into the area and spoil what little chances I have around midnight. I'll give it just a little more time to get really dark and seek some unpolluted sky. I should press the old DSLR into service. If I was more optimistic, I would have charged it up today and made it ready for action. The last time the camera was used was for my oldest granddaughter's wedding. She has four children now. Bwahahaha

We went out and had zero luck. I could capture the light pollution of Wichita in a long exposure but no Northern lights. My youngest daughter is driving through Wichita to get beyond the pollution. If I get out again, I plan to go East. It's the shortest distance for me to have a North view without Wichita lights.

I had zero luck going East. I got some great long exposure pics of the clouds that moved in. My daughter, on the other hand, had some luck being North of Wichita. Here is one of her pics.
